Biophysical insight into the binding mechanism of epigallocatechin-3-gallate and cholecalciferol to albumin and its preventive effect against AGEs formation: An in vitro and in silico approach
This article focusses on the interaction and antiglycating potential of (-)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) and vitamin D in combination using various techniques. The formation of the HSA-EGCG and HSA-vitamin D complex was confirmed by UV and fluorescence spectroscopy. Thermodynamic analysis verified the spontaneity of reaction, and presence of hydrogen bonds and van der Waals interactions. FRET confirms high possibility of energy transfer. Cumulative antiglycation resulted in almost 60 % prevention in AGEs formation, decreased alterations at lysine and arginine, and reduced protein carbonylation. Secondary and tertiary ...

Coadministration of doxorubicin with vitamin D3, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Lactobacillus casei in the 4T1 mouse model of breast cancer: anticancer and enteroprotective effects
Med Oncol. 2024 Apr 9;41(5):111. doi: 10.1007/s12032-024-02346-0.ABSTRACTThe use of doxorubicin (Dox) in the treatment of breast cancer negatively affects the intestines and other tissues. Many studies have proven that probiotics and vitamin D3 have antitumor and intestinal tissue-protecting properties. To achieve effectiveness and minimize side effects, the current study aims to administer Dox together with probiotics (Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus casei) and vitamin D3. Forty-two female BALB/c inbred mice were divided into six groups: Group 1 (Control), Group 2 (Dox), Group 3 (Dox and probiotics), Group 4 (...

Accumulated LPS induced by colitis altered the activities of vitamin D-metabolizing hydroxylases and decreased the generation of 25-hydroxyvitamin D
Chem Biol Interact. 2024 Apr 6:110997. doi: 10.1016/j.cbi.2024.110997. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIt is generally accepted that low vitamin D (VD) levels are associated with a high prevalence factor for Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD). IBD patients have observed higher levels of lipopolysaccharide(LPS), ALT, and AST than healthy people. Gut-derived LPS causes inflammatory injury in the liver and kidney. The VD-metabolizing mechanism is involved in the liver and kidney, which means IBD might impact VD metabolism. However, whether IBD affects VD metabolism has not been studied. In vitro LPS resulted in decreased CYP2R1 in...

Oral lichen planus among patients from Lublin Region in relation to 25-hydroxy-vitamin D3 serum level
CONCLUSIONS: The study enhances relationship between reduced levels of vitamin D3 and lichen planus in patients with oral lesions. Thus, vitamin D3 control and supplementation may play an important role in the treatment of lichen planus.PMID:38549488 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/169166 (Source: Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine : AAEM)

The antimicrobial effect of different vitamin D compounds on < em > Streptococcus mutans < /em > and their impact on glycosyltransferase expression
CONCLUSION: Vitamin D2 and D3 inhibited S. mutans mediated pH drop in sucrose supplemented cultures and altered glycosyltransferase expression, suggesting potential therapeutic roles in dental caries prevention. Further research is needed to assess their full impact on S. mutans survival under environmental stresses.PMID:38550660 | PMC:PMC10976999 | DOI:10.1080/20002297.2024.2327758 (Source: Journal of Oral Microbiology)
