Construction of resveratrol and quercetin nanoparticles based on folic acid targeted Maillard products between Jiuzao glutelin isolate and carboxymethyl chitosan: Improved stability and function
Food Chem. 2024 Apr 16;450:139296. doi: 10.1016/j.foodchem.2024.139296. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAdvanced targeted nanoparticles (NPs) were designed to enhance the targeted delivery of resveratrol (RES) and quercetin (QUE) by utilizing carboxymethyl chitosan (CTS) and Jiuzao glutelin isolate (JGI) conjugates. Briefly, RES and QUE were encapsuled within CTS-JGI-2 (CTS/JGI, m/m, 2:1). The carrier's targeting properties were further improved through the incorporation of folic acid (FA) and polyethylenimine (PEI). Moreover, the stability against digestion was enhanced by incorporating baker yeast cell walls (BYCWs) to con...

Synergistic Regulation of Targeted Organelles in Tumor Cells to Promote Photothermal ‐Immunotherapy Using Intelligent Core‐Satellite‐Like Nanoparticles for Effective Treatment of Breast Cancer
Herein, an intelligent nanoplatform (BMAEF) is fabricated to perform on-demand destruction of mitochondria and golgi apparatus, which also generates the enhanced photothermal therapy and immunotherapy, resulting in the effective inhibition of primary and metastasis tumor against breast cancer. The BMAEF has a core of mesoporous silica nanoparticles loaded with brefeldin A (BM), which is further connected to ethylenebis(oxyethylenenitrilo)tetraacetic acid and folic acid co-modified gold nanoparticles (AEF). AbstractThe normal operation of organelles is critical for tumor growth and metastasis. Herein, an intelligent nanopla...

A common genetic variant in humans (MTHFR 677C>T), results in reduced enzyme activity and has been linked to various disorders, including male infertility. A new animal model has been created by reproducing the human ...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1515: First-Line LV5FU2 with or without Aflibercept in Patients with Non-Resectable Metastatic Colorectal Cancer: A Randomized Phase II Trial (PRODIGE 25-FFCD-FOLFA)
za Khemissa Akouz Magali Terme Côme Lepage Valérie Boige Fluropyrimidine monotherapy is an option for some patients with inoperable metastatic colorectal cancer. Unlike bevacizumab, the addition of aflibercept, an antibody acting as an anti-angiogenic agent, has never been evaluated in this context. The aim of the study was to determine whether aflibercept could increase the efficacy of fluoropyrimidine monotherapy without increasing toxicity. This multicenter phase II non-comparative trial evaluated the addition of aflibercept to infusional 5-fluorouracil/folinic acid (LV5FU2 regimen) as first-line treatment ...

Impact of supplementation with iron-folic acid (IFA) and vitamin D3 compared with IFA alone on haemoglobin levels in elderly people with mild-to-moderate anaemia: protocol for the double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled Iron and vitamin D trial in Elderly Anemia (IDEA)
This study is a community-based, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomised trial. The study will be done in the Kalyani municipality area. Individuals aged ≥60 years with mild-to-moderate anaemia and normal vitamin D3 levels will be randomised into the intervention (IFA and vitamin D3 supplementation) group or the control group (IFA and olive oil as placebo). All medications will be self-administered. Follow-up will be done on a weekly basis for 12 weeks. The calculated sample size is 150 in each arm. Block randomisation will be done. The primary outcome is change in haemoglobin levels from baseline to 12 weeks. Seco...

DTYMK is an essential gene in mice and heterozygosity does not cause neural tube defects
Arch Biochem Biophys. 2024 Apr 15;755:109991. doi: 10.1016/j.abb.2024.109991. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRegulation of nucleotide biosynthesis is necessary for maintaining cellular processes including DNA replication and repair. A key enzyme in this process is deoxythymidylate kinase (dTYMK), which catalyzes the initial step in the production of dTTP from dTMP. This gene constitutes the first merged step of dTTP synthesis from the de novo and salvage pathways which regulate dTMP biosynthesis. Decreased de novo dTMP biosynthesis causes dysregulated dTTP:dUTP pools, and leads to increased uracil in DNA and neural tube clo...

Monitoring the utilization and effectiveness of Iron and Vitamin D supplementations program and its predictive factors in high schools ’ girls in Qom, Iran
Conclusion:The inadequate and incomplete rate of IVDSP in Qom was high and more than 60% of distributed supplementations have been wasted. Our results showed that students who were participated in educational orientation classes were more successful and eager in iron and vitamin D3 consumption.  Therefore, it is recommended to increase interventions at individual, interpersonal, intra-organizational and inter-organizational levels in order to fully support the program and ultimately increase the efficiency of the program.  (Source: Journal of Preventive Medicine and Hygiene)

Butyrate promotes kidney resilience through a coordinated kidney protective response in tubular cells
In conclusion, butyrate promotes kidney resilience to AKI and decreases inflammation by preventing the downregulation of kidney protective genes such as Klotho. This information may be relevant to optimize antibiotic management during hospitalization.PMID:38615919 | DOI:10.1016/j.bcp.2024.116203 (Source: Biochemical Pharmacology)

The secondary outbreak risk and mechanisms of Microcystis aeruginosa after H < sub > 2 < /sub > O < sub > 2 < /sub > treatment
This study reported the comprehensive mechanisms of secondary outbreak of M. aeruginosa after H2O2 treatment. The findings suggest that optimizing the dosage and frequency of H2O2, as well as exploring the potential use of salicylic acid and folic acid inhibitors, could be promising directions for future algal control strategies.PMID:38603907 | DOI:10.1016/j.jhazmat.2024.134196 (Source: Cancer Control)

Maternal non-compliance with recommended folic acid supplement use alters global DNA methylation in cord blood of newborns: a cohort study
Prenatal folate exposure may alter epigenetic marks in the offspring. We aimed to evaluate associations between prenatal exposure to folic acid (FA) in preconception and in utero with cord blood DNA methylation in long interspersed nuclear element 1 (LINE-1) and Alu short interspersed nuclear elements (SINEs) as markers of global DNA methylation levels.
