Ductal, intraductal, and cribriform carcinoma of the prostate: Molecular characteristics and clinical management
Urol Oncol. 2024 Mar 13:S1078-1439(24)00053-X. doi: 10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.01.037. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTProstatic acinar adenocarcinoma accounts for approximately 95% of prostate cancer (CaP) cases. The remaining 5% of histologic subtypes of CaP are known to be more aggressive and have recently garnered substantial attention. These histologic subtypes - namely, prostatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA), intraductal carcinoma of the prostate (IDC-P), and cribriform carcinoma of the prostate (CC-P) - typically exhibit distinct growth characteristics, genomic features, and unique oncologic outcomes. For example, PTEN mut...

LncRNA MCM3AP-AS1 promotes chemoresistance in triple-negative breast cancer through the miR-524-5p/RBM39 axis
This study investigated the action of MCM3AP-AS1 in chemoresistance of TNBC cells. Drug-resistant TNBC cell lines SUM159PTR and MDA-MB-231R were constructed by exposure to increasing concentrations of doxorubicin/docetaxel (DOX/DXL). MCM3AP-AS1 and miR-524-5p expression levels were determined by RT-qPCR. RNA binding motif 39 (RBM39) level was measured using Western blot. Cell viability and apoptosis were assessed by CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry. The targeted binding of miR-524-5p with MCM3AP-AS1 or RBM39 was predicted by ECORI database and validated by dual-luciferase assays. The gain-and-loss of function assays were con...

GSE169589 N7-methylguanosine tRNA modification promotes tumorigenesis and chemoresistance through WNT/ β-Catenin pathway in nasopharyngeal carcinoma
Contributors : Hao Peng ; Shuibin LinSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencing ; OtherOrganism : Homo sapiensTreatment selections are very limited for patients with advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) experiencing disease progression. Uncovering the potential mechanism underlying NPC progression is crucial for identify novel treatments. Here we show that N7-methylguanosine (m7G) tRNA modification enzyme METTL1 and its partner WDR4 are significantly elevated in NPC and associated with poor prognosis. Loss-of-function and gain-of-function assays demonstrated that METTL1/WDR4 mediated m7G tRNA mod...

Retrospective evaluation of Penguin Cold Caps for chemotherapy-induced alopecia
This study was a single-institution review of outcomes from manual cold capping.MethodsWe identified retrospective cohort of adult patients who presented to discuss cold capping between January 14, 2019, and March 31, 2022. Data collected from medical records included demographics, decision to pursue/continue cold capping, diagnoses, chemotherapy regimens, hair characteristics (length, thickness, coarseness, type), and subjective perception of percentage of hair retained. Those with successful vs. unsuccessful cold capping ( ≥ 50% vs. <  50% of hair retained) were compared based on the patient-level factors of i...

Flare phenomenon visualized by 99mTc-bone scintigraphy has prognostic value for patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer
ConclusionFavorable prognosis, with fewer disturbances from other factors such as the use of abiraterone or/and enzalutamide, PSA changes, and BSI, was attainable in cases when the mCRPC patient demonstrated flare phenomenon. Follow-up bone scintigraphy at least every 3  months could help to determine the prognosis of patients with bone metastasis of mCRPC. (Source: Annals of Nuclear Medicine)

Therapeutic vaccines for advanced non-small cell lung cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Adding a vaccine resulted in no differences in overall survival, except for racotumomab, which showed some improvement compared to placebo, but the difference in median survival time was very small (1.4 months) and the study only included 176 participants. Regarding progression-free survival, we observed no differences between the compared treatments, except for TG4010, which may increase progression-free survival slightly. There were no differences between the compared treatments in serious treatment-related adverse events, except for SRL172 (killed Mycobacterium vaccae) added to chemotherapy, which was assoc...

Combination tumor ‐treating fields treatment for patients with metastatic non‐small cell lung cancer: A cost‐effectiveness analysis
ConclusionsIn the United States, TTFields plus SOC as second-line treatment was not a more cost-effective strategy for patients with mNSCLC. Of the analyzed regimens, TTFields plus ICI was associated with most significant health benefits. (Source: Cancer Medicine)

Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes refine outcomes in triple-negative breast cancer treated with anthracycline-free neoadjuvant chemotherapy
CONCLUSIONS: sTILs density was independent predictor of OS beyond clinicopathologic features and pathologic response in TNBC patients treated with anthracycline-free CbD chemotherapy. Notably, sTILs density stratified outcomes beyond TNM stage and pathologic response. These findings highlight role of sTILs in patient selection/stratification for neo/adjuvant escalation and de-escalation strategies.PMID:38466643 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-24-0106 (Source: Clinical Cancer Research)
