Involvement of PI3K/AKT Pathway in the Rapid Antidepressant Effects of Crocetin in Mice with Depression-Like Phenotypes
In conclusion, crocetin exerted rapid antidepressant effects via suppressing the expression of inflammatory cytokines and the apoptosis of neuronal cells through PI3K/AKT signaling pathways. The rapid antidepressant effect of crocetin (40 mg/kg) could be maintained for at least 2 days after single treatment.PMID:37935859 | DOI:10.1007/s11064-023-04051-2 (Source: Neurochemical Research)

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 9015: Food Safety Issues in the Oltrepò Pavese Area: A SERS Sensing Perspective Sensors doi: 10.3390/s23229015 Authors: Benedetta Albini Pietro Galinetto Serena Schiavi Enrico Giulotto Handly and easy-to-use optical instrumentation is very important for food safety monitoring, as it provides the possibility to assess law and health compliances at every stage of the food chain. In particular, the Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) method appears highly promising because the intrinsic drawback of Raman spectroscopy, i.e., the natural weakness of the effect and, in turn, ...

Small Airway Dysfunction (SAD) in older patients: analysing lung function data from the SAFFRON study
Discussion:There is no evidence of emphysema or hyperinflation on lung function in disCOPD patients, despite the presence of SAD, highlighting the potential for misdiagnosis of early COPD due to silent SAD. Radiology, blood biomarker and functional capacity data, collected as part of the SAFFRON study, will be of benefit.Ref 1: 10.1136/thx.2008.098483 (Source: European Respiratory Journal)

Sinomenine Ameliorates IL-1 β-Induced Intervertebral Disc Degeneration in Rats Through Suppressing Inflammation and Oxidative Stress via Keap1/Nrf2/NF-κB Signaling Pathways
CONCLUSION: SN can prevent IL-1β-induced apoptosis of NPCs and ameliorate IDD by activating the Keap1/Nrf2 pathway and inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway.PMID:37881650 | PMC:PMC10596063 | DOI:10.2147/JIR.S430423 (Source: Cell Research)

The Anti-hypoxia Potentials of Trans-sodium Crocetinate in Hypoxiarelated Diseases: A Review
Curr Radiopharm. 2023 Oct 24. doi: 10.2174/0118744710268127231020083505. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCrocetin is a kind of apocarotenoid carboxylic acid extracted from saffron (Crocus sativus L.), which is effective in upregulating tissue oxygenation. However, crocetin is difficult to solubilize. It was shown that the trans isomer of crocetin is effective in improving oxygen diffusivity, while its cis isomer appears not to be. Hence, the isolated trans isomer of crocetin or trans-sodium crocetinate (TSC) can be used instead of crocetin. It is shown that TSC can upregulate hypoxic tissue oxygenation and be effective in tr...

The effects of Crocus sativus extract on inhaled paraquat-induced lung inflammation, oxidative stress, pathological changes and tracheal responsiveness in rats
Toxicon. 2023 Oct 10:107316. doi: 10.1016/j.toxicon.2023.107316. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTParaquat is a green liquid toxin that is used in agriculture and can induce multi-organ including lung injury. Various pharmacological effects of Crocus sativus (C. sativus) were indicated in previous studies. In this research, the effects of C. sativus extract and pioglitazone on inhaled paraquat-induced lung inflammation, oxidative stress, pathological changes, and tracheal responsiveness were studied in rats. Eight groups of rats (n = 7 in each) including control (Ctrl), untreated paraquat aerosol exposed group (54 mg/m3, 8 ti...
