Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1611: An Overview of the Spices Used for the Prevention and Potential Treatment of Gastric Cancer
We present the potential molecular mechanisms responsible for the effectivity of a given seasoning substance and their impact on GC cells. We discuss their potential effects on proliferation, apoptosis, and migration. For most of the spices discussed, we also outline the unavailability and side effects of their use. (Source: Cancers)

Effects of < em > Crocus sativus < /em > and its constituent, safranal, and pioglitazone, on systemic inflammation and oxidative stress induced by paraquat aerosol in rats
CONCLUSION: C. sativus and safranal improved inhaled PQ-induced systemic inflammation and oxidative stress similar to those of dexamethasone and showed synergic effects with pioglitazone suggesting the possible PPARγ receptor-mediated effects of the plant and its constituent.PMID:38629099 | PMC:PMC11017852 | DOI:10.22038/IJBMS.2024.72996.15867 (Source: Methods of Information in Medicine)

< em > Bacillus subtilis < /em > stimulates plant growth and production of bioactive components in saffron
Nat Prod Res. 2024 Apr 10:1-6. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2024.2340045. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe effects of B. subtilis on the morphology and physiology of saffron were investigated using two types of soils. Three different bacterial suspensions were applied at 14-day intervals to treat saffron. Morphological attributes were recorded, and the amounts of α-crocin and safranal in the stigma extracts were quantified. The longest stigma, petal, and leaf were observed in the treated groups with 105 and 108 cfu/ml. The highest weight of stigma per corm belonged to the treated groups with 102 cfu/ml in unsterile soil and 105...

Preventive effects of crocin, a natural compound from saffron, against nicotine ‑induced oxidative stress and neurobehavioral disturbances
In this study, we explore the neuroprotective effects of crocin, a bioactive agent commonly found in saffron - a spice derived from the flower of Crocus sativus - using a rat model. The dose‑dependent effects of crocin were evaluated in nicotine‑induced neurodegeneration and compared with a control group. Neurobehavioral changes, assessed through the elevated plus maze, the open field test, the forced swim test, and the Morris water maze, as well as oxidative stress in the hippocampus, were evaluated. Interestingly, nicotine administration resulted in depression, anxiety, and abnormal motor and cognitive functions, whi...

The immunoregulatory property of mesenchymal stem cells in Crocin treatment by expression modulation of microRNA-155, microRNA-21, microRNA-23b, microRNA-126a, and their target inflammatory genes
In conclusion, Crocin could control essential signaling pathways related to the inflammation by regulating the expression of related- miRNAs genes that play a key function in the immune regulation pathways in MSCs. Our findings can give an understanding of the mechanisms by which Crocin enhances the immunomodulatory feature of MSCs. According to the research findings, DP-SCs are probably a better immunomodulator in Crocin treatment than Ad-SCs and it may be helpful for MSCs selection in clinical applications for modulation or treatment of autoimmune disorders.PMID:38583816 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2024.148446 (Source: Gene)

Analysis of green word-of-mouth advertising behavior of organic food consumers
In this study, 400 organic saffron consumers were grouped using a self-organizing map (SOM) neural network based on consumer neobehavioristic theory, and then, using decision trees, consumer behavior rules were extracted for participating in the WOM for each group. According to the results, less than fifty percent of consumers in each of the four market segments are willing to participate in WOM advertising for organic saffron. A lack of awareness of the characteristics of organic saffron is also found to be the main reason for consumers' reluctance to recommend organic saffron to others. Mass-media advertising is an effec...

206 SAFFRON: Savolitinib + Osimertinib vs Chemotherapy in EGFRm NSCLC with MET Overexpression/Amplification Post-Osimertinib
Osimertinib, a potent, third-generation, oral EGFR-TKI is the preferred first-line treatment in EGFRm advanced NSCLC. However, tumours eventually develop resistance and METoverexpression and/or amplification is the most common acquired resistance mechanism. Savolitinib is an oral, potent, and highly selective MET-TKI. Savolitinib +osimertinib has been investigated in the Ph1B TATTON (NCT02143466)/Ph2 SAVANNAH (NCT03778229) studies. SAFFRON (NCT05261399) aims to assess efficacy/safety of savolitinib+osimertinib vs platinum-based chemotherapy in adult patients with EGFRm, MET-overexpressed and/or -amplified, locally advanced...
