We report the case of a 55-year-old male patient having presented to the Yehuleshet Specialty Clinic 6 years back with sudden-onset dysarthria and appendicular ataxia of 10 days duration. He reported having right hemibody weakness and blurred vision, which have significantly improved since then. He had a history of smoking of 30 pack-years. However, he quit smoking 8 years ago. There was no history of prior stroke, transient ischemic attack, diabetes, hypertension, head trauma, or dyslipidemia. Cardiovascular disease risk, awareness, and treatment in people with epilepsy
CONCLUSIONS: Participants with epilepsy had increased ASCVD risk, despite similar or better awareness, treatment, and control of individual risk factors such as diabetes and hypertension. Our results suggest that epilepsy is associated with numerous health behaviors leading to cardiovascular disease, though the causal pathway is complex as these variables (income, depression, diet, exercise, smoking) generally served as confounders rather than mediators.PMID:33690068 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2021.107878

Controversies: Stroke Prevention in Chronic Kidney Disease
Risk of both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke is increased in the chronic kidney disease (CKD) population, particularly in end-stage kidney disease patients. Uremic factors that contribute to stroke risk include blood pressure variability, vascular calcification, build-up of vascular toxins, chronic inflammation, platelet dysfunction and increased brain microbleeds. This paper discusses the controversial evidence for stroke prevention strategies including blood pressure control, statins, antiplatelet agents, and anticoagulation in the CKD population.

Stenting for Symptomatic Intracranial Vertebrobasilar Artery Stenosis in Northeast of China: A Single-Center Study
Conclusion: A high technical success rate of IVBS stenting could be achieved, and the safety was acceptable, whereas Mori C lesions were more vulnerable to endovascular procedure and showed a higher rate of complications than A and B types.

Treatment with Atorvastatin During Vascular Remodeling Promotes Pericyte-Mediated Blood-Brain Barrier Maturation Following Ischemic Stroke

Statins, Risk of Death and Ischemic Stroke in Patients with Dementia: A Registry-Based Observational Cohort Study.

Meta-Analysis of Dyslipidemia Management for the Prevention of Ischemic Stroke Recurrence in China
Conclusions: Effective lipid-lowering therapy could decrease the blood LDL-C level, which had a protective effect against stroke recurrence. These results support the use of predicted baseline cerebrovascular disease risk equations to inform decisions regarding blood lipid-lowering treatment in ischemic stroke patients in China.

Use of the Cardiovascular Polypill in Secondary Prevention of Cerebrovascular Disease: A Real-Life Tertiary Hospital Cohort Study of 104 Patients
