Predictors of Short- and Long-Term Mortality in Ischemic Stroke: A Community-Based Study in Brno, Czech Republic
Conclusions: Our study is the first to report data on short- and long-term mortality rates and their predictors in patients hospitalized with IS in the Czech population. Our results indicate that mortality rates and predictors of mortality are consistent with those reported in studies from other populations throughout the world.Cerebrovasc Dis

COVID-19 Infection and Recurrent Stroke in Young Patients With Protein S Deficiency: A Case Report
Conclusions: SARS-CoV-2 infection potentializes the prothrombotic effect and vascular inflammation by accentuating protein S deficit. The place of steroids seems justifiable in the presence of symptoms of vasculitis in brain imaging.

A Retrospective Study on Statins and Post-stroke Patients: What About Functional Outcome and Follow-Up in a Stroke Rehabilitation Cohort?
Conclusions: The use of statins does not seem to influence the functional outcome in post-stroke patients. However, they could exert a protective role against bone fractures during post-discharge follow-up, suggesting further evaluation on this topic.

Statin Use and Outcomes of Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke Treated With Intravenous Thrombolysis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: The present systematic review and meta-analysis suggests that in-hospital statin use after IVT may be safe and may have a favorable impact on clinical outcomes, a finding not observed in studies restricted to patients with pre-stroke statin use.

Acute Secondary Prevention of Ischemic Stroke: Overlooked No Longer
Recent studies of interventions initiated acutely following onset of minor ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) have disclosed early stroke recurrence rates that are substantially higher than long-term recurrence rates and that can be reduced by acute antiplatelet treatment interventions. These observations, bolstered by analysis based on kinetic modeling of the time course of recurrence following initial events, suggest that acute stroke patients experience an underlying vulnerable state that quickly transitions to a more stable state. Some evidence also supports the benefits of early treatment with direct-a...

Statin Treatment in the Acute Phase and the Risk of Post-stroke Pneumonia: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Conclusions: There appeared to be no additional benefits of statin treatment in the acute phase for post-stroke pneumonia reduction among AIS patients.Clinical Trial Registration:http://www.chictr.org.cn, identifier: ChiCTR2000032838.

Efficacy and Safety of PCSK9 Inhibitors in Stroke Prevention
Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) interacts with the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor and, by enhancing its degradation, has a pivotal role in the regulation of cholesterol homeostasis. Two fully humanized monoclonal antibodies targeting PCSK9, evolocumab and alirocumab, are available for clinical use. PCSK9 inhibitors reduce LDL-C 30% more than ezetimibe and 60% more than placebo when added to statins. This reduction in LDL-C is accompanied by a decrease in the risk of major cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events.

Statins for the Prevention of Post-Stroke Seizure and Epilepsy Development: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Cerebrovascular disease is the leading cause of seizures and incident epilepsy of known etiology in older adults. Statins have increasingly garnered attention as a potential preventive strategy due to their pleiotropic effects beyond lipid-lowering, which may include neuroprotective and anti-epileptogenic properties. We aim to assess the evidence on statin use for prevention of post-stroke early-onset seizures and post-stroke epilepsy.

Emerging Role of Carotid MRI for Personalized Ischemic Stroke Risk Prediction in Patients With Carotid Artery Stenosis
Rupture of a vulnerable carotid plaque is an important cause of ischemic stroke. Prediction models can support medical decision-making by estimating individual probabilities of future events, while magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can provide detailed information on plaque vulnerability. In this review, prediction models for medium to long-term (>90 days) prediction of recurrent ischemic stroke among patients on best medical treatment for carotid stenosis are evaluated, and the emerging role of MRI of the carotid plaque for personalized ischemic stroke prediction is discussed. A systematic search identified two models; ...

Disparities between Asian and Non-Asian Thrombolyzed Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients in the Enhanced Control of Hypertension and Thrombolysis Stroke Trial
Conclusions: Within the context of an international clinical trial of thrombolyzed AIS patients, demography, risk factors, management, and odds of early neurological deterioration and ICH, all differ between Asian and non-Asian participants. However, patterns of functional recovery are similar between these major regional groups.Cerebrovasc Dis

Characteristics of cerebral ischemic stroke based on moyamoya disease and atherosclerosis-associated intracranial arterial stenosis
ConclusionsDiffering from LAS stroke, MMD stroke mainly presents with WSI and does not feature with platelet hyper-aggregation and fragmentation of ulcer plaque. Whereby, focusing on perfusion improvement rather than antiplatelets and statins may be the predominant step in MMD-stroke correction.

Low dose statins improve prognosis of ischemic stroke patients with intravenous thrombolysis
For acute ischaemic stroke patients, it is uncertain whether intravenous thrombolysis combined with statins might increase the therapeutic effect. Additionally, using high-intensity statins after thrombolysis ...

The Effect of Statin Treatment on Outcomes of Cardioembolic Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Real-World Studies
ConclusionsAlthough the use of statins does not enhance the prevention of stroke recurrence in PWCS, statin treatment is associated with improved clinical outcomes in PWCS. Statins play a beneficial role in the treatment of cardioembolic stroke.
