Age- and Sex-Associated Impacts of Body Mass Index on Stroke Type Risk: A 27-Year Prospective Cohort Study in a Low-Income Population in China
Conclusions Being overweight increased the risk of both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes; obesity was only associated with an increased risk of IS. Additionally, the positive association between BMI and stroke risk was only observed in participants aged <65 years and the associations differed between men and women. Being overweight increased the risk of both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes in men and being underweight increased their risk of hemorrhagic stroke. In women, being overweight increased the hemorrhagic stroke risk, whereas obesity increased their IS risks. The high prevalence of hypertension and elevat...

Correlation Between Intracranial Arterial Calcification and Imaging of Cerebral Small Vessel Disease
Conclusion: Intracranial artery calcification is common in patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease and the intracranial carotid artery is most frequently affected. Intracranial arterial calcifications might be associated with imaging markers of SVD and are highly correlated with WMHs, lacunes, and CMBs. Quantification of calcification on CT provides additional information on the pathophysiology of SVD. Intracranial arterial calcification could act as a potential marker of SVD. Introduction Atherosclerosis is a systemic vascular process that is considered a major cause of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular di...

Periodontal Disease Is Associated With Increased Risk of Hypertension: A Cross-Sectional Study
Conclusion: Periodontal disease is significantly and positively correlated with increased risk of hypertension in Chinese population, and exact mechanisms of this association should be explored in future. Introduction Periodontal disease is a complex polymicrobial inflammation, including gingivitis and periodontitis. According to the 2015 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, the prevalence of severe chronic periodontitis in 2015 has reached 616 million (Kassebaum et al., 2017). In China, the periodontal disease standardized DALYs rate has risen from 24.7 in 1990 to 25.7 in 2013 according to the data from 2013 GBD ...

Association of C-peptide with diabetic vascular complications in type 2 diabetes.
CONCLUSION: -: C-peptide was positively associated with CVD, but inversely associated with DR progression. The association between C-peptide and CVD could be due to associated metabolic risk factors. PMID: 31026551 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Efficacy and safety of clopidogrel only vs. clopidogrel added proton pump inhibitors in the treatment of patients with coronary heart disease after percutaneous coronary intervention: A systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsThe patients in the non-PPI group were observed to be associated with less risk of MACE, myocardial infarction recurrence, stent thrombosis, target vessel revascularization (TVR) and stroke. And the two groups had similar all cause death, cardiovascular death, bleedings events.

Interaction between an ATP-Binding Cassette A1 (ABCA1) Variant and Egg Consumption for the Risk of Ischemic Stroke and Carotid Atherosclerosis: a Family-Based Study in the Chinese Population.
CONCLUSION: rs2066715 was found to interact with egg consumption in modifying the risk of carotid plaque in the Chinese population. PMID: 30828007 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Health-related quality of life among rural men and women with hypertension: assessment by the EQ-5D-5L in Jiangsu, China
ConclusionsThe HRQoL was lower in this rural hypertensive population than previously reported urban counterparts. To improve the HRQoL of hypertensive patients in rural areas, it is important to control hypertension and prevent its associated co-morbidities. More attention needs to be directed to elderly female patients with less education who scored much lower HRQoL than their male counterparts.

Chemical Profiling of Xueshuan Xinmaining Tablet by HPLC and UPLC-ESI-Q-TOF/MS.
Authors: Han YX, Wang PF, Zhao M, Chen LM, Wang ZM, Liu XQ, Gao HM, Gong MX, Li H, Zhu JZ, Liu CG Abstract Xueshuan Xinmaining Tablet (XXT) is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of stroke, chest pain, coronary heart disease, and angina pectoris caused by blood stasis. Having a multiple-component preparation, it is still far from meeting the requirements of modernization and standardization because its detailed chemical basis and action mechanism have not been clarified. In this work, the different batches of XXT samples were analyzed by HPLC and the typical sample was analyzed by UPLC-ESI-...

Effect of prior stroke on long ‐term outcomes of percutaneous coronary interventions in Chinese patients: A large single‐center study
ConclusionsPrior stroke history was the only predictor of risk of post ‐PCI stroke. The noncerebrovascular adverse events were not increased after adjusted analyses of baseline characteristics and propensity analyses.

The 2017 hormone therapy position statement of The North American Menopause Society
The 2017 Hormone Therapy Position Statement of The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) updates the 2012 Hormone Therapy Position Statement of The North American Menopause Society and identifies future research needs. An Advisory Panel of clinicians and researchers expert in the field of women's health and menopause was recruited by NAMS to review the 2012 Position Statement, evaluate new literature, assess the evidence, and reach consensus on recommendations, using the level of evidence to identify the strength of recommendations and the quality of the evidence. The Panel's recommendations were reviewed and approved by...

A national study of the prevalence and risk factors associated with peripheral arterial disease from China: The China Hypertension Survey, 2012 –2015
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is the third leading cause of atherosclerotic vascular morbidity after coronary heart disease and stroke. Epidemiology data of PAD is very limited in low-income and middle-income countries. A national wide survey was conducted from October 2012 to December 2015 to assess the prevalence of PAD in China.

Relation of Platelet Parameters with Incident Cardiovascular Disease (The Dongfeng-Tongji Cohort Study)
This study aimed to investigate the above-mentioned prospective relations in the middle-aged and older Chinese populations based on the Dongfeng-Tongji (DFTJ) cohort. We included 31,751 participants who were free of coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke, cancer, or severely abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG) at baseline.

Low LDL-C and risk of hemorrhagic stroke in Chinese adults
It is well-established that higher LDL and total cholesterol are associated with increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), that is, coronary heart disease (CHD) and ischemic stroke events, and that cholesterol-lowering by statins and other therapies reduce ASCVD risk. However, the picture is less clear for the 10% to 20% of strokes that are hemorrhagic rather than ischemic. A meta-analysis of observational studies shows that lower levels of LDL-C and total cholesterol are associated with higher risk of hemorrhagic strokes (HS), and with intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), a subset of HS.

Association between the MVK rs2287218 SNP and the risk of coronary heart disease and ischemic stroke: A case-control study.
Authors: Wang DS, Yin RX, Li KG, Lu L, Su Y, Yan RQ Abstract The association between the mevalonate kinase gene (MVK) single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and serum lipid levels has been detected in several previous genome-wide association studies, but the results are inconsistent. In addition, it is still unclear whether the loci indentified exert the similar effect on the susceptibility of coronary heart disease (CHD) or ischemic stroke (IS). Therefore, the present study was undertaken to detect the association between the MVK rs2287218 SNP and serum lipid levels, the susceptibility of CHD and IS in a Southern Ch...
