Gene Expression and Benefit of Chemotherapy in Women With Node-Negative, Estrogen Receptor-Positive Breast Cancer
CONCLUSION: The RS assay not only quantifies the likelihood of breast cancer recurrence in women with node-negative, estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer, but also predicts the magnitude of chemotherapy benefit.PMID:37406456 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.22.02570

Bone-Derived IGF-I Regulates Radial Bone Growth in Adult Male mice
In conclusion, inactivation of IGF-I in cortical bone with unchanged liver-derived IGF-I in older male mice resulted in reduced radial growth of cortical bone. This suggests that not only circulating IGF-I, but also locally derived IGF-I, regulates the cortical bone phenotype in older mice.PMID:37406213 | DOI:10.1210/endocr/bqad104

Targeting autophagy with tamoxifen in breast cancer: From molecular mechanisms to targeted therapy
CONCLUSION: Therefore, by overcoming endocrine resistance in estrogen receptor-positive breast tumors, autophagy inhibition may improve the therapeutic efficacy of TAM.PMID:37402635 | DOI:10.1111/fcp.12936

Subchronic exposure to Tamoxifen modulates the hippocampal BDNF/ERK/Akt/CREB pathway and impairs memory in intact female rats
This study evaluated the effects of TAM subchronic administration on the memory performance and hippocampal neural plasticity of intact female Wistar rats. Animals were treated intragastrically with TAM (0.25 and 2.5 mg/kg) for 59 days. The rats were subjected to the Object Location Test (OLT) and Object Recognition Test (ORT) to evaluate memory performance. After euthanasia, the hippocampus samples were excised and the protein levels of the BDNF/ERK/Akt/CREB pathway were evaluated. The rat's locomotor activity and hippocampal TrkB levels were similar among the experimental groups. TAM at both doses reduced the memory perf...

Combination of tamoxifen and D-limonene enhances therapeutic efficacy in breast cancer cells
Med Oncol. 2023 Jun 30;40(8):216. doi: 10.1007/s12032-023-02081-y.ABSTRACTBreast cancer one of the most common diseases in women, has a high death and morbidity rate. Tamoxifen being very much effective in the chemoprevention of breast cancer has been shown to develop resistance during the course of treatment making it difficult for patient's survival. By combining tamoxifen with naturally occurring substances having similar activities, might control the toxicity and increase the susceptibility towards the treatment. As a natural compound, D-limonene has been reported to inhibit the growth of certain malignancies significa...

The astrocytic Na < sup > + < /sup > -HCO < sub > 3 < /sub > < sup > - < /sup > exchanger NBCe1 is dispensable for respiratory chemosensitivity
J Physiol. 2023 Jun 29. doi: 10.1113/JP284960. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe interoceptive homeostatic mechanism that controls breathing, blood gases and acid-base balance in response to changes in CO2 /H+ is exquisitely sensitive, with convergent roles proposed for chemosensory brainstem neurons in the retrotrapezoid nucleus (RTN) and their supporting glial cells. For astrocytes, a central role for NBCe1, a Na+ -HCO3 - cotransporter encoded by Slc4a4, has been envisaged in multiple mechanistic models (i.e. underlying enhanced CO2 -induced local extracellular acidification or purinergic signalling). We tested these NBC...
