Endothelial Upregulation of Mechanosensitive Channel Piezo1 in Pulmonary Hypertension
Am J Physiol Cell Physiol. 2021 Oct 20. doi: 10.1152/ajpcell.00147.2021. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPiezo is a mechanosensitive cation channel responsible for stretch-mediated Ca2+ and Na+ influx in multiple types of cells. Little is known about the functional role of Piezo1 in the lung vasculature and its potential pathogenic role in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Pulmonary arterial endothelial cells (PAECs) are constantly under mechanic stretch and shear stress that are sufficient to activate Piezo channels. Here we report that Piezo1 is significantly upregulated in PAECs from patients with idiopathic PAH and ...

Mechanical Strain Regulates Myofibroblast Differentiation of Human Scleral Fibroblasts by YAP
In conclusion, mechanical strain activated scleral myofibroblast differentiation via YAP. The YAP pathway may play an important role in regulating scleral myofibroblast differentiation and ECM remodeling of the sclera in glaucoma.

Growth Arrest Specific-6 and Axl Coordinate Inflammation and Hypertension
Conclusions: We define a previously unrecognized interaction of human endothelial cells and monocytes that promote formation of AS DCs in hypertension and show a critical role of GAS6 and Axl signaling in both immune cells and endothelial cells. This pathway is potentially a novel therapeutic target to reduce inflammation and end organ damage in hypertension.PMID:34565181 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCRESAHA.121.319643
