GSE262414 The use of plasma microRNAs (miRs) as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of chronic kidney disease (CKD)
Contributor : David SimpsonSeries Type : Non-coding RNA profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Homo sapiensMicroRNAs (miRs) have the potential to be employed as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and are functionally important in disease pathogenesis. To identify novel miR biomarkers we performed small RNA-sequencing (sRNA-Seq) to detect miRs that were quantitatively altered in the circulation of individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) with CKD compared to those with normal kidney function. MiR-190a-5p abundance was significantly lower in the circulation of T2D patients with red...

Comparison of Clinical Features, Treatment and Outcomes of Lupus Nephritis Between Patients With Late- and Early-Onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Controlled Study
CONCLUSION: This matched controlled study of year at SLE diagnosis showed that late-onset SLE patients had lower prevalence of LN and LN flares. Although they received fewer immunosuppressive drugs, their renal manifestations and treatment outcomes were no different from those in early-onset patients.PMID:38550544 | PMC:PMC10970043 | DOI:10.14740/jocmr5097 (Source: Clin Med Res)

Longitudinal modeling of efficacy response in patients with lupus nephritis receiving belimumab
In conclusion, the 10 mg/kg IV dose was considered appropriate in all patients and there was no evidence to suggest a hig her response would be achieved by increasing the dose. (Source: Journal of Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics)

Evidence from the large VALIGA cohort validates the subclassification of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in IgA nephropathy.
Evidence from the Oxford IgA nephropathy (IgAN) cohort supports the clinical value of subclassifying focal segmental glomerulosclerosis lesions (S1). Using the larger Validation in IgA (VALIGA) study cohort, we investigated the association between podocytopathic changes and higher proteinuria, kidney outcome and response to immunosuppressive therapy. All biopsies were evaluated for glomeruli with segmental capillary occlusion by matrix ( “not otherwise specified”, NOS lesion), simple capsular adhesion without capillary occlusion (Adh), tip lesions, and podocyte hypertrophy (PH). Protective effect of astaxanthin on ANCA-associated vasculitis
CONCLUSION: ATX could ameliorate the organ damages in EAV rats. It could serve as a hopeful therapy for AAV by its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative feature as a unique nature carotenoid.PMID:38537540 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2024.111928 (Source: International Immunopharmacology)

Acute kidney injury in children with lymphoma
CONCLUSION: TLS, lung infection, and lymphoma clinical stage were identified as independent risk factors for AKI in children with lymphoma during the first 30 days of hospitalization. Clinicians should increase their awareness of AKI in hospitalized patients with lymphoma.PMID:38529931 | DOI:10.5414/CN111157 (Source: Clinical Nephrology)

Non-Lupus Full House Nephropathy
CONCLUSIONS: Our data support that SLE and non-lupus full house nephropathy are distinct clinical entities, with comparable outcomes. A small subset of patients develops SLE during follow-up. Non-lupus full house nephropathy is addressed by many different names in the literature. The identification of three pathogenetic categories provides further clues for the management of the disease.PMID:38527995 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.0000000000000438 (Source: Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology : CJASN)

Exploring Multiple Endocrinological Issues and Dysautonomia in a Rare Case: Hypoparathyroidism in MIRAGE Syndrome
We present a 6.5-year-old girl, who was first admitted to our department with short stature. On follow up, she exhibited multiple endocrinological issues, including transient hypothyroidism, primary hypoparathyroidism and dysautonomia, along with multisystem involvement. Further investigations revealed recurrent moniliasis, low IgM levels, and transient monosomy 7 in the bone marrow. Whole exome sequencing revealed a heterozygous pathogenic variant of SAMD9 (c.2159del; p.Asn720ThrfsTer35). Additional complications observed during follow-up included medullary nephrocalcinosis, hypomagnesemia, hypermagnesiuria, hypophosphate...

A short treatment with resveratrol after a renal ischaemia-reperfusion injury prevents maladaptive repair and long-term chronic kidney disease in rats
This study assessed whether transient administration of RSV following ischaemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) could prevent the progression to CKD. Forty-one male Wistar rats were assigned randomly to sham surgery, bilateral renal ischaemia for 30 min (IR) or IR+RSV. The RSV treatment commenced 24 h after IRI and continued for 10 days. The rats were studied for either 10 days or 5 months, after which kidney function and structure were evaluated. Mitochondrial homeostasis, oxidant defence and renal inflammation state were also evaluated. Despite having the same severity of AKI, rats receiving RSV for 10 days after IRI exhibited ...
