Development of a physiologically based pharmacokinetic model of fostemsavir and its pivotal application to support dosing in pregnancy
AbstractIt is critical to understand the impact of significant physiological changes during pregnancy on the extent of maternal and fetal drug exposure. Fostemsavir (FTR) is a prodrug of temsavir (TMR) and is approved in combination with other antiretrovirals for multi-drug-resistant human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections. This physiologically based pharmacokinetic model (PBPK) study was used to estimate TMR PK in pregnant populations during each trimester of pregnancy to inform FTR dosing. A PBPK model was developed and validated for TMR using PK data collected following intravenous TMR and oral FTR dosing (immedia...

Expression and clinical significance of short-chain fatty acids in patients with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy
CONCLUSION: Compared with the NP group, significant alterations were observed in the SCFAs of maternal serum and cord blood in the ICP group, although they displayed distinct patterns of change. Furthermore, the SCFA levels in maternal serum and cord blood were significantly positively correlated. Notably, certain maternal serum SCFAs, specifically caproic and acetic acids, demonstrated excellent diagnostic efficiency for ICP.PMID:38689740 | PMC:PMC11056904 | DOI:10.4254/wjh.v16.i4.601 (Source: World Journal of Hepatology)

Bacterial burden and molecular characterization of Coxiella burnetii in shedding pregnant and postpartum ewes from Saint Kitts
This study aimed to evaluate the bacterial burden and perform molecular characterization of Coxiella burnetii during shedding in pregnant (vaginal, mucus and feces) and postpartum (vaginal mucus, feces and milk) ewes from Saint Kitts. Positive IS1111 DNA (n=250) for C. burnetii samples from pregnant (n=87) and postpartum (n=74) Barbados Blackbelly ewes in a previous investigation were used for this study. Vaginal mucus (n=118), feces (n=100), and milk (n=32) positive IS1111 C. burnetii-DNA were analysed by real time qPCR (icd gene). For molecular characterization of C. burnetii, selected (n=10) IS1111 qPCR positive samples...

Laser-printed paper ELISA and hydroxyapatite immobilization for colorimetric congenital anomalies screening in saliva
In this study, we developed a novel laser-printed paper-based ELISA (LP-pELISA) for rapid, sensitive, and noninvasive detection of AFP in saliva samples. The LP-pELISA platform was fabricated by printing hydrophobic barriers on filter paper using a laser printer, followed by depositing hydroxyapatite (HAp) as an immobilization material for the antibodies. The colorimetric detection was achieved using AuNPs functionalized with anti-AFP antibodies and silver nitrate enhancement. The LP-pELISA exhibited a linear response for AFP detection in both buffer and saliva samples over a range of 1.0-800 ng mL-1, with a limit of detec...

Hedonic hunger, ultra-processed food consumption, and the moderating effects of impulsivity in pregnant individuals with body mass index ≥ 25
Appetite. 2024 Apr 29;198:107385. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2024.107385. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEvidence suggests higher hedonic hunger (preoccupation with/desire to consume food for pleasure) is associated with greater ultra-processed food (UPF) consumption in non-pregnant individuals with higher, but not lower, self-report impulsivity or delay discounting. The current study tested the association between hedonic hunger and UPF consumption, and the moderating effects of self-report impulsivity and delay discounting, during pregnancy. Individuals (N = 220) with body mass index (BMI)≥25 completed the Power of Food Scale...

Analysis of factors affecting pregnancy rate after laparoscopic surgery for infertility associated with endometriosis
CONCLUSION: For patients with EMs-related infertility undergoing laparoscopic surgery, factors such as age > 35 years, infertility duration > 3 years, concurrent adenomyosis, severe EMs, surgery duration ≥ 2 h, intraoperative blood loss ≥ 50 ml, and low AMH before surgery are detrimental for the pregnancy rate within the first postoperative year. However, BMI, dysmenorrhea, past history of pelvic surgery, EMs pathology types (ovarian, peritoneal, deep infiltrating),and preoperative result of serum CA125 barely show any statistical difference in their effect on postoperative pregnancy rates. In terms of postoperat...
