Serostatus of Coxsackie B in a sample of women with miscarriage in Baghdad, Iraq
CONCLUSION: This investigation posits Coxsackie B virus (CBV) as a possible etiology for miscarriage in the Iraqi female population. Further studies employing larger cohorts and robust methodologies, beyond the current detection technique, are warranted to corroborate these observations and elucidate the potential mechanisms by which CBV might induce miscarriage.PMID:38669524 | DOI:10.3233/HAB-240005 (Source: Human Antibodies)

Autistic Women's Experience of Motherhood: A Qualitative Analysis of Reddit
J Autism Dev Disord. 2024 Apr 26. doi: 10.1007/s10803-024-06312-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAutistic mothers remain under-represented in parental and autism research despite the associated physical and psychosocial challenges that accompany the transition to motherhood. Extant literature suggests autistic mothers experience sensory difficulties, communication challenges, stigma, and comorbidities as difficulties, but these studies have focused on autistic women in the perinatal period. The aim of this study was to examine reflections on motherhood from a Reddit community for autistic parents. Identified themes were Au...

Two cases with discrepancy in the quantitative cytological assessment of cerebrospinal fluid in neonatal samples using light microscopy in comparison with Sysmex XN-1000
We present two cases from the neonatal department with cerebrospinal fluid examination. We revealed a striking discrepancy in polymorphonuclear (PMN) and mononuclear (MN) cell counts using conventional light microscopy in comparison with automated analyzer Sysmex XN-1000 (PMNs - 13 vs. 173x106/L, MNs - 200 vs. 67x106/L in case 1 and PMNs - 13 vs. 372x106/L, MNs - 411 vs. 179x106/L in case 2). We revealed the dominant presence of hemosiderophages in both cases in cytospin slide. Even though Sysmex XN-1000 offers fast examination with a low sample volume, there is possibility of misdiagnosis, with negative impact on the pati...

Are the elements zinc, copper, magnesium, and rubidium related to nutrition and iodine deficiency in pregnant Bulgarian women from iodine deficient region?
CONCLUSION: The high Cu levels were associated with subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) and less pulse consumption during pregnancy in an iodine deficiency endemic area. SCH was found in 24% of the pregnant women in such an area while in 13% of them SCH had progressed to overt hypothyroidism.PMID:38669155 | DOI:10.21101/cejph.a7796 (Source: Central European Journal of Public Health)

Women- and clinician- important outcomes and priorities regarding vasa praevia: An international qualitative study to inform development of a core outcome set
CONCLUSION: We have identified patient-important outcomes and experience measures that have been directly fed into the development of a core outcome set on vasa previa. Incorporating these considerations into both clinical practice and future research studies has the potential to improve outcomes and experiences for women with vasa praevia.PMID:38669723 | DOI:10.1016/j.wombi.2024.101614 (Source: Women Birth)

Understanding changes in echocardiographic parameters at different ages following fetal growth restriction: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2024 Apr 26. doi: 10.1152/ajpheart.00052.2024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFetal growth restriction (FGR) increases cardiovascular risk by cardiac remodeling and programming. This systematic review and meta-analysis across species examines the use of echocardiography in FGR offspring at different ages. PubMed and Embase.com were searched for animal and human studies reporting on echocardiographic parameters in placental insufficiency-induced FGR offspring. We included 6 animal and 49 human studies. While unable to perform a meta-analysis of animal studies due to insufficient number of stu...

MicroRNAs in the Pathogenesis of Preeclampsia-A Case-Control In Silico Analysis
The objective of this secondary analysis was to elucidate the pathogenesis of PE by probing protein-protein interactions from in silico analysis of transcriptomes between PE and normal placenta from Gene Expression Omnibus (GSE149812). The pathogenesis of PE is apparently determined by associations of miRNA molecules and their target genes and the degree of changes in their expressions with irregularities in the functions of hemostasis, vascular systems, and inflammatory processes at the fetal-maternal interface. These irregularities ultimately lead to impaired placental growth and hypoxic injuries, generally manifesting a...

Roles of AhR/CYP1s Signal Pathway Mediated ROS Production in Uremic Cardiomyopathy
CONCLUSION: This study provides evidence that the AhR/CYP1s pathway is activated in UCM rats, and this activation is correlated with the uremic toxin IS. In vitro studies indicate that IS can stimulate the AhR translocation in cardiomyocyte, triggering to the production of intracellular ROS via CYP1s. This process leads to prolonged oxidative stress stimulation and thus contributes to the progression of uremic toxin-mediated cardiomyopathy.PMID:38670245 | DOI:10.1016/j.toxlet.2024.04.005 (Source: Toxicology Letters)

Adverse perinatal outcomes are strongly associated with degree of abnormality in uterine artery Doppler pulsatility index
CONCLUSIONS: An elevated UtA-PI is a key predictor of iatrogenic preterm birth, severe SGA and perinatal loss up to 34+0 weeks. It is the 90th centile that should be used, and management should be further tailored to the degree of abnormality, as pregnancies with very raised UtA-PI measurements constitute a group at extreme risk. Developmental exposure to 17- α-hydroxyprogesterone caproate disrupts decision-making in adult female rats: A potential role for a dopaminergic mechanism
Horm Behav. 2024 Apr 25;163:105550. doi: 10.1016/j.yhbeh.2024.105550. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe synthetic progestin, 17α-hydroxyprogesterone caproate (17-OHPC), is administered to pregnant individuals at risk for preterm birth and is likely transferred from mother to fetus. Yet, there is little information regarding the potential effects of 17-OHPC administration on behavioral and neural development in offspring. In rats, neonatal 17-OHPC exposure altered dopaminergic fiber distribution and density in the prelimbic medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) in neonates and adolescents, respectively. Additionally, neonatal 17...
