Exploring the anti-osteoporosis potential of Petroselinum crispum (Mill.) fuss extract employing experimentally ovariectomized rat model and network pharmacology approach
Fitoterapia. 2024 Apr 23:105971. doi: 10.1016/j.fitote.2024.105971. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOne of the most prevalent secondary osteoporosis is ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis. Parsley (Petroselinum crispum) has potent estrogenic and antioxidant properties and was used traditionally in the treatment of amenorrhea and dysmenorrhea. The present study aimed to characterize parsley leaf extract (PLE) employing RP-HPLC-MS-MS/MS-based method and possible protective effect in ovariectomized (OVX)-induced osteoporosis in rats was assessed. Rats were randomly assigned into SHAM group, OVX group, PLE + OVX group (150 mg/kg/da...

Integrative analyses of genetic characteristics associated with skeletal endothelial cells
In this study, we conducted a systematic analysis of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and the associated pathways in juvenile and mature femoral ECs, utilizing data sourced from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) repositories (GSE148804) and employing bioinformatics tools. Through this approach, we successfully discerned six pivotal genes, namely Adamts1, Adamts2, Adamts4, Adamts14, Col5a1, and Col5a2. Subsequently, we constructed a miRNA-mRNA network based on miRNAs displaying differential expression between CD31hiEMCNhi and CD31lowEMCNlow ECs, utilizing online repositories for prediction. The expression of miR-466i-3...

Am J Physiol Endocrinol Metab. 2024 Apr 24. doi: 10.1152/ajpendo.00113.2024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic pancreatitis (CP) is a progressive inflammatory disease with an increasing global prevalence. In recent years, a strong association between CP and metabolic bone diseases (MBDs), especially osteoporosis, has been identified, attracting significant attentions in the research field. Epidemiological data suggest a rising trend in the incidence of MBDs among CP patients. Notably, recent studies have highlighted a profound interplay between CP and altered nutritional and immune profiles, offering insights into its ...

The potential role of SNHG16/ miRNA-146a/ TRAF6 signaling pathway in the protective effect of zoledronate against colorectal cancer and associated osteoporosis in mouse model
Int Immunopharmacol. 2024 Apr 23;133:112125. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2024.112125. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBone fracture as a consequence of colorectal cancer (CRC) and associated osteoporosis (OP) is considered a risk factor for increasing the mortality rate among CRC patients. SNHG16/ miRNA-146a/ TRAF6 signaling pathway is a substantial contributor to neoplastic evolution, progression, and metastasis. Here, we investigated the effect of zoledronate (ZOL) on the growth of CRC and associated OP in a mouse model. Thirty Balb/c mice were divided into Naïve, azoxymethane (AOM)/dextran sodium sulfate (DSS), and ZOL groups....

Association between hepatitis A seropositivity and bone mineral density in adolescents and adults: a cross-sectional study using NHANES data
CONCLUSIONS: This study confirmed that both adolescent and adult individuals seropositive for Hepatitis A antibodies had reduced BMD among both adolescents and adults, especially in the adult group. This finding suggests a possible link between Hepatitis A infection and risk of osteoporosis.PMID:38655984 | DOI:10.1590/1516-3180.2023.0266.R1.08022024 (Source: Sao Paulo Medical Journal)

Treatment patterns in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis using abaloparatide: a real-world observational study
ConclusionMost patients completed treatment with abaloparatide as prescribed, and over half continued with an antiresorptive agent. This favorable conduct may be the result of regular follow-up visits and accessibility to both medication and patient support services. (Source: Osteoporosis International)

Refracture and mortality risk in the elderly with osteoporotic fractures: the AGES-Reykjavik study
ConclusionThe risk of refracture significantly increases in the first six years following the initial fracture. Elderly women, who experience fractures at a younger age, should be closely monitored to address their long-term elevated refracture risk. Elderly men, especially those with hip and vertebral fractures, face substantial mortality risk and require prioritized monitoring and treatment. (Source: Osteoporosis International)

Ginsenoside Rc alleviates osteoporosis by the TGF- β/Smad signaling pathway
Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand). 2024 Mar 31;70(3):95-101. doi: 10.14715/cmb/2024.70.3.14.ABSTRACTOsteoporosis is a common chronic bone disorder in postmenopausal women. Ginsenosides are primary active components in ginseng and the effects of various ginsenoside variants in osteoporosis treatment have been widely revealed. We planned to explore the impact of ginsenoside Rc on bone resorption in an osteoporosis rat model. We used ovariectomized rats to assess the potential impact of ginsenoside Rc on osteoporosis. μ-CT was implemented for analyzing the microstructure of the distal left femur in rats. H&E staining togeth...
