Ginsenoside Rc alleviates osteoporosis by the TGF- β/Smad signaling pathway
Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand). 2024 Mar 31;70(3):95-101. doi: 10.14715/cmb/2024.70.3.14.ABSTRACTOsteoporosis is a common chronic bone disorder in postmenopausal women. Ginsenosides are primary active components in ginseng and the effects of various ginsenoside variants in osteoporosis treatment have been widely revealed. We planned to explore the impact of ginsenoside Rc on bone resorption in an osteoporosis rat model. We used ovariectomized rats to assess the potential impact of ginsenoside Rc on osteoporosis. μ-CT was implemented for analyzing the microstructure of the distal left femur in rats. H&E staining togeth...

Conservative Versus Operative Treatment of Proximal Humerus Fractures in Older Individuals —an Analysis of Insurance Data
CONCLUSION: The conservative treatment of proximal humerus fracture is associated with a lower overall rate of complications due to surgery or trauma, but also with more MAE and TE and higher overall mortality. These findings underline the need for individualized and risk-adjusted treatment recommendations.PMID:38652842 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2024.0059 (Source: Deutsches Arzteblatt International)

Incidence and prevalence of musculoskeletal health conditions in survivors of childhood and adolescent cancers: A report from the Swiss childhood cancer survivor study
ConclusionMSHCs are prevalent in survivors, the risk is increasing in younger survivor cohorts, and MSHCs usually occur in multimorbid survivors. Strengthening of rehabilitation services and appropriate referrals are needed to mitigate the effects of the cancer and cancer treatment. (Source: Cancer Medicine)

Anatomical features of the proximal end of the radius and its implications for implant design
ConclusionsMorphological and morphometric features of the proximal radius are important for prosthesis design and implantation. The ideal radial head prosthesis design is challenging due to numerous parameters, wide ranges and low correlation, although modular designs facilitate compatibility. The widespread use of 3D printing technologies is expected to reduce the potential complications associated with prosthesis applications. (Source: Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy)

Secondary fracture prevention in primary care: a narrative review
AbstractThe global burden of osteoporosis continues to rise with an ageing population. Untreated osteoporotic fractures not only heighten the risk of subsequent fractures but are associated with excess mortality. Although primary care guidelines consistently stress the importance of secondary fracture prevention, fewer than 20% of patients are appropriately treated for osteoporosis following an initial osteoporotic fracture. This worldwide phenomenon is known as the osteoporosis care gap. This literature review examines the barriers to secondary fracture prevention in primary care and evaluates the effectiveness of targete...

Quercetin in Osteoporosis Treatment: A Comprehensive Review of Its Mechanisms and Therapeutic Potential
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis review aims to provide a theoretical basis and insights for quercetin ’s clinical application in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis (OP), analyzing its roles in bone formation promotion, bone resorption inhibition, anti-inflammation, antioxidant effects, and potential mechanisms.Recent FindingsOP, a prevalent bone disorder, is marked by reduced bone mineral density and impaired bone architecture, elevating the risk of fractures in patients. The primary approach to OP management is pharmacotherapy, with quercetin, a phytochemical compound, emerging as a focus of recent interest. Thi...
