Hemophilic pseudotumor of the knee joint: Emphasizing prevention and early diagnosis in a rare disease
Key Clinical MessageHemophilic pseudotumors are rare complications occurring in individuals with severe hemophilia, characterized by progressive cystic swellings in muscles and/or bones due to recurrent bleeding. Timely initiation of factor VIII replacement is crucial.AbstractHemophilic pseudotumors are rare complications occurring in individuals with severe hemophilia, characterized by progressive cystic swellings in muscles and/or bones due to recurrent bleeding. Although their incidence has decreased with the advent of factor VIII replacement therapy, they still create challenges, particularly in regions with limited ac...

Tunable Release of Ions from Graphene Oxide Laminates for Sustained Antibacterial Activity in a Biomimetic Environment
In this study, the tunable, slow, and longer-term release of silver ions from the two -dimensional (2D) nanocapillaries of graphene oxide (GO) laminates incorporated with silver ions (Ag-GO) for antimicrobial applications are successfully demonstrated. To closely mimic a physiologically relevant serum-based environment, a novel in vitro study model using 100% fetal bovine serum (FBS) is introduced as the test medium for microbiology, biocompatibility, and bioactivity studies. To emulate fluid circulation in a physiological environment, the in vitro studies are challenged with serum exchange protocols on different days. The...

Interposition of acellular amniotic membrane at the tendon to bone interface would be better for healing than overlaying above the tendon to bone junction in the repair of rotator cuff injury
CONCLUSION: In the RC repair model, AAM enhanced regeneration of the tendon to bone junction. This regeneration was more effective when the AAM was intervened at the tendon to bone interface than overlaid above the tendon to bone junction.PMID:38688817 | DOI:10.1016/j.cjtee.2024.04.001 (Source: Chinese Journal of Traumatology)

Preliminary Study: 3D Nailing for Intertrochanteric Femur Fractures
CONCLUSION: In both static compression and fatigue tests, 3DPFN exhibits significant biomechanical advantages over PFNA. This suggests that 3DPFN may be an excellent choice for the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures of the femur and holds further research value for development. Future studies may involve clinical trials to validate and refine the 3DPFN design based on the observed results and promote the advancement of orthopedic implant technology.PMID:38687858 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)
