Vaping Behaviors and Criminal Activity among a Nationally Representative Sample of U.S. Adults
Conclusions: The findings of the current study indicate the need for more awareness of the negative social consequences associated with vaping, particularly marijuana vaping. Additionally, the crime patterns among adults in this study are different from previous studies using adolescent samples. Specifically, flavor vaping is not associated with criminal behavior among the adult only sample. Thus, vaping studies that use adolescent samples may not generalize to adults.PMID:38627907 | DOI:10.1080/10826084.2024.2340970 (Source: Substance Use and Misuse)

Cohort Effects on Tobacco Consumption and its Genetic and Environmental Variance Among Finnish Adults born between 1880-1957
CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate sex and cohort effects on the prevalence of smoking and its underlying variation. Our results on changing prevalence mirror existing population-level research in Finnish samples, but we did not identify differences in heritability found in other studies of cohort effects in tobacco use, potentially due to power issues. These results highlight the importance of considering age, cohort, and timing of policy changes when evaluating changes in substance consumption across time.IMPLICATIONS: This study identifies sex and cohort effects influencing tobacco consumption in a sample of Finnish adul...

Researchers need ‘open’ bibliographic databases, new declaration says
When universities are deciding whom to hire and promote, or grant organizations are selecting projects to fund, there’s a good chance they’re referencing more than just the application materials. Many organizations rely on databases that compile publication information including authors, affiliations, citations, and funding sources to create metrics meant to quantify a researcher’s productivity and the quality of their work. Some of the best known databases, such as the Web of Science and Scopus, are proprietary and offer pay-to-access data and services supporting these and other metrics, including university r...
