Single-cut derotational osteotomy of the distal femur for correction of torsion and frontal axis
Oper Orthop Traumatol. 2024 Mar 27. doi: 10.1007/s00064-024-00844-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: A rotational osteotomy requires a complete cut of the bone in order to correct maltorsion. An additional correction of the frontal axis can be achieved via an oblique cut of the bone. The osteotomy with bone to bone contact is fixed with an angle stable plate.INDICATIONS: Symptoms such as anterior knee pain, inwardly pointing knee syndrome, lateral patellar subluxation or dislocation, lateral patellar hypercompression syndrome are a common indication for derivational osteotomy if clinically increased femoral intern...

Different Influence Pattern of Conventional and Alternative Sources of Smoking on Adhesion Molecules and Cytokine Secretion in THP-1 Monocytes
CONCLUSION: Our data indicate differential immunological consequences of different conventional and alternative smoking sources with and without nicotine. Further comprehensive analysis as well as in vivo investigations on peripheral blood monocyte subsets from smoking individuals using different smoking sources are required to better understand the impact on monocyte characteristics, especially with regard to the development of cancer.PMID:38537980 | DOI:10.21873/anticanres.16941 (Source: Cell Research)

The Noble Suicide: The Case of a Self-Contained Dagger in the Heart and a Literal Raw
Case Rep Psychiatry. 2024 Mar 19;2024:3017903. doi: 10.1155/2024/3017903. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTAccording to WHO estimates, more than 700,000 people die each year due to suicide and suicides performed with a bladed weapon account for approximately 1.6%-3% of all suicides. It is statistically more common to find injuries to the heart, lungs, and thoracic vessels in homicides, whereas in suicides there is a higher frequency of vascular injuries to the extremities of the limbs. Also in suicides, the presence of "hesitation marks," related to the attempts the victim makes before having the courage to kill himself, can often...
