Effectiveness of the Assessment of Burden of Chronic Conditions (ABCC)-tool in patients with asthma, COPD, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and heart failure: A pragmatic clustered quasi-experimental study in the Netherlands
CONCLUSION: Use of the ABCC-tool has a positive effect on perceived quality of care and patients' activation, which makes the tool ready for use in clinical practice. Healthcare providers (e.g. general practitioners and practice nurses) can use the tool to provide person-centred care.Trial registration number: ClinicalTrials.gov Registry (NCT04127383).PMID:38738695 | DOI:10.1080/13814788.2024.2343364 (Source: European Journal of General Practice)

Contemporary guideline ‐directed medical therapy in de novo, chronic, and worsening heart failure patients: First data from the TITRATE‐HF study
ConclusionThis first analysis of the TITRATE-HF study reports relatively high use of GDMT in a contemporary HF cohort, while still showing room for improvement regarding quadruple therapy. Importantly, the use and dose of GDMT were suboptimal, with the reasons often remaining unclear. This underscores the urgency for further optimization of GDMT and implementation strategies within HF management. (Source: European Journal of Heart Failure)

The Effect of (Chemo)Radiotherapy on Enlarged Lateral Lymph Nodes in Patients With Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer
CONCLUSION: Enlarged LLNs are rare after nCRT and no LLNR was found after nCRT in our study population. This could suggest that nCRT only with or without an extra radiotherapeutic boost on enlarged LLNs already reduces the risk of LLNR.PMID:38735828 | DOI:10.1016/j.clcc.2024.02.003 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

The relationships between certified nursing assistants' voice behaviour and job satisfaction, work engagement and turnover intentions: A two-wave survey study
CONCLUSION: While previous research has found positive effects of voice on patient safety outcomes and team and organizational improvements in care organizations, we demonstrate that voice is also related to a key workforce outcome, that is, certified nursing assistants' job satisfaction.IMPLICATIONS AND IMPACT: Recognizing the interplay between voice behaviour and job satisfaction underscores the importance of creating work environments where certified nursing assistants feel able and willing to make their voices heard-with ideas and suggestions, as well as information regarding problems and concerns.PATIENT OR PUBLIC INV...

Let ’s talk about sex! Why should healthcare professionals address sexual distress in breast cancer patients and survivors?
This study evaluated the prevalence and factors of sexual distress among Dutch breast cancer patients, compared them to the general population, and explored how sexual distress is discussed in clinical settings from the perspectives of patients and healthcare professionals (HCPs). Dutch translation and cultural adaptation of new LYMPH-Q- scales measuring impact on work and lymphedema worry
ConclusionThe translated LYMPH-Q ‘Impact on Work’ and ‘Lymphedema worry’ scales provide healthcare professionals with an instrument to assess and monitor the impact of BCRL on work-related challenges and on worries. This comprehensive translation process, involving patients with BCRL and experts, ensured the linguistic accu racy, cultural relevance, and clarity of the Dutch versions. The translated scales will contribute to a better understanding of the multifaceted impact of BCRL and facilitate the development of tailored interventions to improve patients’ well-being and functional outcomes.Level of Evidence:Not...

Which men benefit from prostate cancer screening? Prostate cancer mortality by subgroup in the European Randomised Study of Screening for Prostate Cancer
CONCLUSION: We were unable to unequivocally identify the optimal age group for screening, as mortality reduction differed among centres and age groups. Instead, the screening effect appears to depend on screening duration, and the number and frequency of screening rounds. PCa mortality reduction by screening is largely attributable to stage shift.PMID:38725182 | DOI:10.1111/bju.16394 (Source: Cancer Control)

Baseline clinical and MRI risk factors for hamstring reinjury showing the value of performing baseline MRI and delaying return to play: a multicentre, prospective cohort of 330 acute hamstring injuries
CONCLUSIONS: Two clinical findings (the presence of discomfort during active knee extension test, lower straight leg raise angle on the injured leg), two MRI findings (less anteroposterior oedema, MTJ involvement) and shorter time to RTP were independently associated with increased hamstring reinjury risk. These findings may assist the clinician to identify patients at increased reinjury risk following acute hamstring injury.TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBERS: NCT01812564; NCT02104258; NL2643; NL55671.018.16.PMID:38729628 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2023-107878 (Source: British Journal of Sports Medicine)

Examining Dutch children's vocabularies across infancy and toddlerhood: Demographic effects are age-specific and task-specific
We examined demographic effects on vocabulary size across infancy and toddlerhood. We found a disadvantage for males in infants' gestures and toddlers' vocabulary production. We found a negative effect of maternal education on infants' caregiver-reported vocabulary, but a positive effect on toddlers' lab-administered receptive vocabulary. Lastly, we found a negative effect of multilingualism - but only for the lab-administered task. Examining predictors in large, longitudinal samples ensures their robustness and generalisability across development.PMID:38725269 | DOI:10.1017/S0305000924000199 (Source: Journal of Child Language)

Increasing the etanercept dose in a treat-to-target approach in juvenile idiopathic arthritis: does it help to reach the target? A post-hoc analysis of the BeSt for Kids randomised clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: Escalation to high-dose etanercept in JIA-patients who were treated to target was generally followed by meaningful clinical improvement. However, similar improvements were observed in a smaller comparison group who did not escalate to high-dose etanercept. No SAEs were seen after escalation to high-dose etanercept. The division into the high-dose and comparison groups was not randomised, which is a potential source of bias. We advocate larger, randomised studies of high versus regular dose etanercept to provide high level evidence on efficacy and safety.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Dutch Trial Register; NTR1574; 3 Dece...
