German translation and linguistic validation of the modified short questionnaire to assess health-enhancing physical activity (mSQUASH) for patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA)
CONCLUSION: Overall, this study confirmed the final German mSQUASH as a comprehensive measurement instrument for daily physical activity. It can now be used as a patient-reported outcome by German patients with axSpA. This can enable cross-linguistic comparisons and expanding its utility across language barriers.PMID:38717505 | DOI:10.1007/s00393-024-01508-9 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Rheumatologie)

Sexual behaviour and incidence of sexually transmitted infections among men who have sex with men (MSM) using daily and event-driven pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP): Four-year follow-up of the Amsterdam PrEP (AMPrEP) demonstration project cohort
ConclusionsIn this prospective cohort with a comparatively long follow-up period of 4 years, we observed very low HIV incidence and decreases in the numbers of casual sex partners and CAS acts over time. Although the STI incidence was high, it did not increase over time. ECPELLA as a  bridge-to-decision in refractory cardiogenic shock: a single-centre experience
CONCLUSION: ECPELLA can be successfully used as a bridge to LVAD implantation or as a bridge-to-recovery in patients with refractory cardiogenic shock. Despite a significant number of complications, 30-day mortality was lower than observed in previous cohorts.PMID:38713449 | DOI:10.1007/s12471-024-01872-w (Source: Netherlands Heart Journal)

Algorithm for detection and screening of familial hypercholesterolemia in Lithuanian population
CONCLUSIONS: Most patients in this study were classified as probable or possible FH without difference of age and sex. The median age of FH diagnosis was 47 years with significantly older females than males, which refers to the strong interface of this study with the LitHir programme. CAD and premature CAD were more common among patients with probable and definite FH, as well as those with an FH-causing mutation. The algorithm described in this study is the first attempt in Lithuania to implement a specific tool which allows to maximise FH detection rates, establish an accurate diagnosis of FH, excluding secondary causes o...

Trends in incidence, treatment, and relative survival of colorectal cancer in the Netherlands between 2000 and 2021
The epidemiology of colorectal cancer (CRC) has changed rapidly over the years. The aim of this study was to assess the trends in incidence, treatment, and relative survival (RS) of patients diagnosed with CRC in the Netherlands between 2000-2021. (Source: European Journal of Cancer)

Prenatal Exposure to the 1944-45 Dutch Famine and Risk for Dementia up to Age 75: An Analysis of Primary Care Data
CONCLUSION: Although prenatal exposure to the Dutch famine has previously been associated with measures of accelerated brain aging, the present population-based study did not show increased dementia incidence up to age 75 in those exposed to famine during gestation.PMID:38706355 | DOI:10.2174/0115672050290699240422050036 (Source: Current Alzheimer Research)

Assessment of the prevalence of inadequate iron intakes in premenopausal females based on the reference values of the European Food Safety Authority using cross-sectional food consumption data
CONCLUSIONS: This study provided an example for using the PA method by using additionally derived information on the full requirement distribution underlying EFSA's reference values. Results showed once more the unsuitability of the EAR cut-point method to calculate the prevalence of iron inadequacy in premenopausal females. Hence, we recommend that institutions deriving dietary reference values provide all information needed to use the correct method to determine inadequate intakes in the population.PMID:38710446 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2024.04.033 (Source: The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)

The Best Predictor of Future Behavior May Be the Past: Exploring Behavior Change in Men Who Have Sex with Men Using Pre-exposure Prophylaxis in the Netherlands
Arch Sex Behav. 2024 May 6. doi: 10.1007/s10508-024-02863-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use prevents HIV transmission, and may lead to changes in sexual behavior. We aimed to explore sexual behavior over time, and identify predictors of behavior change in men who have sex with men (MSM) using PrEP at sexual health centers (SHC) in the Netherlands. We used longitudinal data from the national STI surveillance database (January 2018-June 2021) of HIV-negative MSM who first initiated PrEP in the national PrEP pilot. We modelled behavior change after PrEP initiation, and identified predictors ...
