Changes in income and employment after diagnosis among patients with multiple myeloma in The Netherlands
CONCLUSION: Loss of (income from) employment among patients with MM was high, causing financial burden on the patient and society. With improving survival in MM, more research and awareness are needed to better assess the importance of income and work for MM patients and society.PMID:38724440 | DOI:10.1016/j.clml.2024.04.004 (Source: Clinical Lymphoma and Myeloma)

Lowering the age limit of access to the identity of the gamete donor by donor offspring: the argument against
This article presents some arguments against lowering the age limits as a general rule for all donor children. The focus is on whether one should give a child the right to obtain the identity of the donor at an earlier age than is presently stipulated. The first argument is that there is no evidence that a change in age will increase the total well-being of the donor offspring as a group. The second argument stresses that the rights language used for the donor-conceived child isolates the child from his or her family and this is unlikely to be in the best interest of the child. Finally, lowering the age limit reintroduces ...

German translation and linguistic validation of the modified short questionnaire to assess health-enhancing physical activity (mSQUASH) for patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA)
CONCLUSION: Overall, this study confirmed the final German mSQUASH as a comprehensive measurement instrument for daily physical activity. It can now be used as a patient-reported outcome by German patients with axSpA. This can enable cross-linguistic comparisons and expanding its utility across language barriers.PMID:38717505 | DOI:10.1007/s00393-024-01508-9 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Rheumatologie)

Sexual behaviour and incidence of sexually transmitted infections among men who have sex with men (MSM) using daily and event-driven pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP): Four-year follow-up of the Amsterdam PrEP (AMPrEP) demonstration project cohort
ConclusionsIn this prospective cohort with a comparatively long follow-up period of 4 years, we observed very low HIV incidence and decreases in the numbers of casual sex partners and CAS acts over time. Although the STI incidence was high, it did not increase over time. Australia II: A Case Study in Engineering Ethics
AbstractAustralia II became the first foreign yacht to win the America's Cup in 1983. The boat had a revolutionary wing keel and a better underwater hull form. In official documents, Ben Lexcen is credited with the design. He is also listed as the sole inventor of the wing keel in a patent application submitted on February 5, 1982. However, as reported inNew York Times,Sydney Morning Herald, andProfessional Boatbuilder, the wing keel was in fact designed by engineer Peter van Oossanen at the Netherlands Ship Model Basin in Wageningen, assisted by Dr. Joop Slooff at the National Aerospace Laboratory in Amsterdam. Based on t...

The need to set explicit goals for human germline gene editing public dialogues
AbstractGiven the potentially large ethical and societal implications of human germline gene editing (HGGE) the urgent need for public and stakeholder engagement (PSE) has been repeatedly expressed. However, the explicit goals of such PSE efforts often remain poorly defined. In this program report, we outline the goals of our Dutch project calledDe DNA dialogen (The DNA dialogues). We believe that setting explicit goals in advance is essential to enable meaningful PSE efforts. Moreover, it enables the evaluation of our engagement efforts. The following four goals, which result from intensive consultations among the transdi...
