Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1738: The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Time to Treatment in Surgical Oncology: A National Registry Study in the Netherlands
Conclusions: Despite pressure on the capacity of the healthcare system during the COVID-19 pandemic, a larger proportion of surgical oncological patients started treatment within six weeks, possibly due to prioritisation of cancer care and reductions in elective procedures. However, during the pandemic, a decrease in the number of surgical oncological procedures performed in the Netherlands was observed, especially for patients with stage I disease. (Source: Cancers)

Frequency of self-directed dying in the Netherlands: research protocol of a cross-sectional mixed-methods study
Introduction In the Netherlands, assisting in suicide is allowed for physicians and regulated by the Termination of Life on Request and Assisted Suicide (review procedures) Act. However, some people decide to end their lives outside the medical domain, without a physician’s help. Two approaches for such self-directed dying are voluntary stopping eating and drinking (VSED) and independently taking lethal medication attended by a confidant (ILMC). The frequency of deaths by either of these methods in the Netherlands was examined in 2007. Since then, there have been societal, political and healthcare developments which ...

The cross-sectional association of parental psychosocial status with children ’s Body Mass Index z-score and the mediating role of children’s energy balance behaviors - the ABCD Study
ConclusionsThis research is unique in including four energy balance behaviors and including both mothers and fathers ’ psychosocial status. Children withfathers experiencing poorer psychosocial status engaged in more screen time which partly explained their higher BMI z-score. (Source: PLoS One)

More than the worksite cafeteria: the workplace food environment of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Netherlands
CONCLUSIONS: In SMEs, an overall comprehensive picture of the food environment points to its limited active encouragement of healthy food choices, particularly so in small SMEs without a worksite cafeteria. Company characteristics strongly influence SME food environments and should be considered when developing interventions improving SME worksite food environments.PMID:38679460 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000946 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Simplified Criteria for Identification of Familial Hypercholesterolemia in Children: Application in Real Life
CONCLUSIONS: In the pediatric population, the combination of LDL-C ≥95th percentile in the proband and the dominant inheritance pattern of hypercholesterolemia, with LDL-C ≥95th percentile in one parent, is a simple, useful and effective diagnostic criterion, showing high MDR. This pattern is crucial for early FH diagnosis. EAS, SBR and LIPIGEN-FH-PED criteria can underestimate the real number of patients with gene mutations and cannot be considered strictly discriminant for the execution of molecular analysis.PMID:38667741 | DOI:10.3390/jcdd11040123 (Source: Atherosclerosis)
