Does serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC) metastasize? The clonal relationship between STIC and subsequent high-grade serous carcinoma in BRCA1/2 mutation carriers several years after risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy
CONCLUSION: Our results indicate that cells from STIC can shed into the peritoneal cavity and give rise to HGSC after long lag periods in BRCA1/2 GPV carriers, and argues in favor of the hypothesis that STIC lesions may metastasize.PMID:38759517 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.05.010 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

An outbreak of Legionnaires' disease linked to a municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plant, The Netherlands, September-October 2022
Euro Surveill. 2024 May;29(20):2300506. doi: 10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2024.29.20.2300506.ABSTRACTWastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are increasingly identified as Legionnaires' disease (LD) sources. An outbreak investigation was initiated following five LD cases reported in September 2022 in Houten, the Netherlands. Case identification was based on the European LD case definition, with symptom onset from 1 September 2022, residence in or within 5 km of Houten, or visit to Houten within the incubation period, without other likely sources. We sampled potential sources and genotyped environmental and clinical isolates. We identi...

Treat to target and shared decision-making in systemic lupus erythematosus from the patients' perspective: results from an international patient survey
CONCLUSIONS: T2T was perceived as beneficial with improvement of QoL as the most important treatment goal and the possibility of additional doctors' visits and initiation of new immunosuppressive agents as potential drawbacks. Patients unsatisfied with their health status and treatment may benefit from greater involvement in treatment decisions.PMID:38757283 | DOI:10.55563/clinexprheumatol/jp828o (Source: Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology)

The difficulty with measuring the largest melanoma tumour diameter in sentinel lymph nodes
Identification of sentinel node (SN) metastases can set the adjuvant systemic therapy indication for stage III melanoma patients. For stage IIIA patients, a 1.0 mm threshold for the largest SN tumour diameter is used. Therefore, uniform reproducible measurement of its size is crucial. At present, the number of deposits or their microanatomical sites are not part of the inclusion criteria for adjuvant treatment. The goal of the current study was to show examples of the difficulty of measuring SN melanoma tumour diameter and teach how it should be measured. Histopathological slides of SN-positive melanoma patients were retri...

Spanish Version of the Netherlands Empowerment List: Adaptation, Psychometric Validation, and Gender Differential Item Functioning Analysis
This study aimed to adapt the Netherlands Empowerment List (NEL), a 40-item scale, into Spanish and to test its psychometric properties examining its dimensional structure, internal consistency, temporal stability, relationships with other variables, and differential item functioning by gender. Participants were 406 users of mental health  community rehabilitation services (52.5% male), with a mean age of 47.8 years. Results confirmed a six first-order factor structure of the scale. Internal consistency was excellent for the total score and ranged from excellent to adequate for subscale scores. Temporal stability was ex...
