The effect of morphine administration on GluN3B NMDA receptor subunit mRNA expression in rat brain
Acta Neurobiol Exp (Wars). 2024 Mar 28;84(1):89-97. doi: 10.55782/ane-2024-2545.ABSTRACTOpioid addiction is critically dependent on the activation of N‑methyl‑D‑aspartate (NMDA) receptors, which are widely found in the mesocorticolimbic system. Meanwhile, opioid addiction may affect the expression level of NMDA receptor subunits. The existence of GluN3 subunits in the NMDA receptor's tetramer structure reduces the excitatory current of the receptor channel. We evaluated the changes in the mRNA expression pattern of the GluN3B subunit of the NMDA receptor in rat brains following acute and chronic exposure to morphine....

Effects of morphine on conditioned place preference and pain are independent of uptake ‑2
This study was done to assess the effect of uptake‑2 inhibition on morphine‑induced conditioned place preference (CPP) and analgesia. In this study, the effects of morphine and/or D22 on CPP were evaluated following intraperitoneal injection in mice. Afterward, changes in motor activity were evaluated by the open field test. Using the tail‑flick model, the effects of D22 and/or morphine were evaluated on the pain threshold. The results showed that 20 mg/kg of morphine induced a place preference response. D22, at the dose of 0.03 mg/kg, caused place avoidance, while at the dose of 0.3 mg/kg, it produced a notable plac...

Intraoperative Surgeon-Administered Adductor Canal Block is a Safe Alternative to Preoperative Anesthesiologist-Administered Adductor Canal Block in Primary Total Knee Arthroplasty
This study examined the transition from traditional preoperative anesthesiologist-performed ultrasound-guided adductor canal block s (“high-ACB”) to low-ACB, evaluating pain control, morphine consumption, first physical therapy visit gait distance, hospital length-of-stay, and complications. New opioid prescription claims and their clinical indications: results from health administrative data in Quebec, Canada, over 14 years
Conclusions New opioid prescription claims (incidence, dose and days’ supply) decreased slightly over the last 14 years among QPDIP enrollees, especially after 2016/2017. Non-surgical and non-cancer pain became less common as their clinical indication. (Source: BMJ Open)
