The integration of ortho-plastic limb salvage teams in the humanitarian response to violence-related open tibial fractures: evaluating outcomes in the Gaza Strip
Limb salvage by ortho-plastic teams is the standard protocol for treating open tibial fractures in high-income countries, but there ’s limited research on this in conflict settings like the Gaza Strip. This stu... (Source: Conflict and Health)

Association of quality of nursing care with violence load, burnout, and listening climate
ConclusionsThe results of this study highlight the impact of violence load among nurses and the ward listening climate on the development of burnout and on providing quality care. The findings call upon policymakers to monitor violence load and allocate resources to foster supportive work environments to enhance nurse well-being and improve patient care outcomes. Pfizer COVID19 vaccine is not associated with acute cardiovascular events excluding myocarditis – a national self-controlled case series study
ConclusionsThere was no increased risk for acute cardiovascular events (excluding myocarditis) in the risk period compared to the control period following administration of the second dose of Pfizer COVID19 vaccine. Mortality data raised no concerns either, but may have been biased. (Source: Israel Journal of Health Policy Research)

Investigation of emissions from passenger flights Denizli Çardak Airport, Türkiye
In this study, it is tried to calculate pollutant emissions occurring in 2022 during the LTO cycles of Denizli Çardak Airport in Turkey. These calculations are based on the information obtained from ICAO Engine Emission Data Bank and flight information published by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (GDSAA). As a result of the data obtained, 74.64 ton/year pollutants (NOx-37.148 t/y, CO-35. 398 t/y and HC-2.094 t/y) were calculated for 2022 at Denizli Çardak Airport. Of all emissions, NOx accounted for 50%, CO 47% and HC 3%. In the LTO cycle, the most fuel is burned in taxi cycle and pollutant emissions ...

Viruses, Vol. 16, Pages 659: Design and Application of Biosafe Coronavirus Engineering Systems without Virulence
ingxin Ma In the last twenty years, three deadly zoonotic coronaviruses (CoVs)—namely, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), and SARS-CoV-2—have emerged. They are considered highly pathogenic for humans, particularly SARS-CoV-2, which caused the 2019 CoV disease pandemic (COVID-19), endangering the lives and health of people globally and causing unpredictable economic losses. Experiments on wild-type viruses require biosafety level 3 or 4 laboratories (BSL-3 or BSL-4), which significantly hinders basic virological r...

The effectiveness of using cognitive behavioral therapy and internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy interventions on relapse prevention and severity of symptoms among patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials
This study aims to evaluate and summarize the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and internet-based CBT (ICBT) interventions on relapse prevention and severity of symptoms among individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD). CBT is one of the most used and suggested interventions to manage MDD, whereas ICBT is a novel effective proposed approach. The review was conducted following the preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis protocol. A comprehensive and extensive search was performed to identify and evaluate the relevant studies about the effectiveness of CBT and ICBT on relapse...

Vaksinen øling under koronapandemien blant unge med etnisk minoritetsbakgrunn i Oslo øst – en kvalitativ studie
Tidsskr Nor Laegeforen. 2024 Apr 8;144(5). doi: 10.4045/tidsskr.23.0690. Print 2024 Apr 23.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Few studies have been conducted on young people's attitudes to the COVID-19 vaccine during the pandemic. We wished to examine how young people with an ethnic minority background decided whether to have the COVID-19 vaccine, based on the concept of vaccine hesitancy. Vaccine hesitancy involves uncertainty with regard to vaccination, irrespective of the decision taken.MATERIAL AND METHOD: Fourteen qualitative in-depth interviews with young people aged 16-25 years with an ethnic minority background and from the east ...

Prevalence of Diabetic Retinopathy Among Individuals with Diabetes in Gulf Cooperation Council countries: A Systematic Review and
Meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of DR was high in the GCC countries. Our findings provide crucial information for the public healthcare systems in these countries to actively educate the public and screen at-risk populations for undiagnosed cases of diabetes, detect early stages of retinopathy, and provide required care to minimize the number of untreated cases.PMID:38651051 | PMC:PMC11033453 | DOI:10.5001/omj.2024.77 (Source: Oman Medical Journal)

E-selectin is associated with stable angina and myocardial infarction in a sample of Kurdish population
This study was conducted on 200 participants who were admitted to the surgical specialty hospital-cardiac center in Erbil City, Iraq between October 2021 and May 2022. Based on the outcomes of the clinical examination, laboratory tests, coronary angiography (COA), acute myocardial infarction (MI) type ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), stable angina pectoris (SAP), and healthy control groups were tested. Each sample was subjected to Sanger sequencing. The polymorphism was significantly linked to stable angina and myocardial infarction Genotype CC was higher in SAP when compared with MI and control groups which was...

A Novel DNase Assay Reveals Low DNase Activity in Severe Asthma
Am J Physiol Lung Cell Mol Physiol. 2024 Apr 23. doi: 10.1152/ajplung.00081.2024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSecreted deoxyribonucleases (DNases), such as DNase-1 and DNase-IL3, degrade extracellular DNA, and endogenous DNases have roles in resolving airway inflammation and guarding against autoimmune responses to nucleotides. Subsets of patients with asthma have high airway DNA levels, but information about DNase activity in health and in asthma is lacking. To characterize DNase activity in health and in asthma, we developed a novel kinetic assay using a Taqman probe sequence that is quickly cleaved by DNase-I to produ...

Apparent Mineralocorticoid Excess in Israel: A Case Series and Literature Review
CONCLUSIONS: In this 11-year follow-up report of two Israeli families with AME, patients who presented early maintained long-term normal kidney function, while those who presented late progressed to ESKD. Nevertheless, despite early diagnosis and management, AME is commonly associated with serious complications of the disease or its treatment.PMID:38652803 | DOI:10.1093/ejendo/lvae049 (Source: European Journal of Endocrinology)
