Enteral nutrition practices among very preterm infants in neonatal units: a cross-country comparative study
This study marks the first exploration of EN practices in neonatal units, examining their local and cross-country variations. It provides valuable insights to guide local trials and foster global collaboration among neonatal units to establish a unified knowledge base, standardized practices and promote research and innovation, ultimately contributing to optimal feeding practices for very preterm infants. Evaluation using the SWAT model of the effects of land use land cover changes on hydrological processes in the Gala Lake Basin, Turkey
AbstractChanges in hydrological processes in watersheds are triggered by various factors, including land use land cover changes (LULCC) emerging from human activities. Hence, it is crucial to elucidate the interaction among hydrological processes to improve sustainable water management plans. The current study explored the effects of LULCC on hydrological processes in the Gala Lake catchment over a 30-year temporal period. In this context, to evaluate LULCC, land cover maps were obtained using the supervised classification method with Landsat images (5 TM, 7 ETM+, 8 OLI) of 1993, 2008, and 2023. Hydrological processes were...

Rapid molecular epidemiology investigations into two recent measles outbreaks in Israel detected from October 2023 to January 2024
In this study, we validate transmission pathways uncovered by epidemiological investigations using a rapid molecular approach, based on complete measles virus genomes. The presented findings support this rapid molecular approach in complementing conventional contact tracing and highlight its potential for informing public health interventions. Optimal Method for Assessing Right Ventricular to Pulmonary Arterial Coupling and Subclinical Right Ventricular Dysfunction in Older Aged Healthy Adults: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis.
The ability of the right ventricle (RV) to adapt to increasing afterload, particularly in diseases such as pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)1, is a primary determinant of morbidity and mortality. In the early stages of pulmonary hypertension (PH), cardiac output is maintained through compensatory hypertrophy of the RV chamber to enhance contractility. However, with sustained pressure overload, these maladaptive compensatory mechanisms are insufficient, and the chamber begins to dilate to maintain cardiac output, known as uncoupling of the RV to pulmonary artery (PA) and the onset of clinical heart failure (HF)2,3. (Sou...

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 511: An R2R3-MYB Transcriptional Factor LuMYB314 Associated with the Loss of Petal Pigmentation in Flax (Linum usitatissimum L.)
This study found no correspondence between the petal color and seed color, refuting the conclusion that a locus controlling the seed coat color is associated with the petal color, as reported in previous studies. The locus controlling the petal color was mapped using a BSA-seq analysis based on the F2 population. However, no significantly associated genomic regions were detected. Our genome-wide association study identified a highly significant QTL (BP4.1) on chromosome 4 associated with flax petal color in the natural population. The combination of a local Manhattan plot and an LD heat map identified LuMYB314, an R2R3-MYB...

Validity of self-reported weight and height among female young adults in the United Arab Emirates
This study aims to compare self-reported weight and height with measured values among young female adults in the United Arab Emirates. A cross-sectional study of 131 female university students aged 17–27 reported their weight and height on a self-administere d questionnaire and on the same day had their height and weight measured. Body Mass Index (BMI) values of both self-reported and measured weight and height were calculated and categorized according to the World Health Organization’s cut-off points. Overall, 87% of students had a resultant self-rep orted BMI value within their actual BMI category. The mean differenc...

Pediatric Emergency Care in Low-Resource Settings
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis review examines the state of pediatric emergency care in low-resource settings (LRS), highlighting significant gaps, particularly in resources and infrastructure.Recent FindingsRecent assessments of pediatric emergency care in various low-resource settings reveal stark differences in resources and capabilities. For instance, the situation in Rwanda ’s district hospitals illustrates disparities in numbers and resources. Similarly, Nigeria faces challenges stemming from institutional deficiencies, inadequate human resources, and insufficient training, necessitating urgent adjustments in traini...
