Effect of Glycerol Administration on ECochG and VEMP Findings in Individual with Meniere's Disease
Indian J Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2022 Dec;74(Suppl 3):4110-4116. doi: 10.1007/s12070-021-02856-7. Epub 2021 Sep 18.ABSTRACTThe present study aimed to find the effect of glycerol administration on Electrocochleography (ECochG), cervical and ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential (c-VEMP, o-VEMP) findings in individual with Meniere's disease. Sixteen participants (32 ears) diagnosed with Meniere's disease underwent ECochG, c-VEMP and o-VEMP for both pre and 1 h post-glycerol administration. Paired t-test indicated that the SP/AP ratio of ECochG measures was significantly improved with post-glycerol administration. T...

Untargeted Metabolomic Analysis in Endolymphatic Sac Luminal Fluid from Patients with Meniere ’s Disease
AbstractDysfunction of the endolymphatic sac (ES) is one of the etiologies of Meniere ’s disease (MD), the mechanism of which remains unclear. The aim of the present study was to explore the molecular pathological characteristics of ES during the development of MD. Metabolomic profiling of ES luminal fluid from patients with MD and patients with acoustic neuroma (AN) was performed. Diluted ES luminal fluid (ELF) samples were obtained from 10 patients who underwent endolymphatic duct blockage for the treatment of intractable MD and from 6 patients who underwent translabyrinthine surgery for AN. ELF analysis was performed ...

Confrontation of endolymphatic hydrops diagnosis on 3-Tesla MRI to clinical and audiovestibular findings in Meniere's disease
ConclusionSURI had the strongest relation to the side the disease and audio vestibular findings for unilateral, probable and definite meniere disease. A short delay between MRI and audio vestibular tests improved the coherence between the findings. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Aldosterone inhibits Dot1l expression in guinea pig cochlea
ConclusionsDot1l in guinea pig cochlea is inhibited by aldosterone with induction of endolymphatic hydrops. Dot1l may be closely related to endolymph regulation by aldosterone and to pathogenesis of Meniere ’s disease. (Source: European Journal of Medical Research)

Incidence of peripheral vestibular disorders based on population data of South Korea
CONCLUSIONS: The annual incidence of BPPV, VN, and MD had increasing trends from 2008 through 2020 in South Korea, and all were significantly higher in female, people aged 60 years or older, and people who resided in metropolitan cities.PMID:36591666 | DOI:10.3233/VES-220085 (Source: Journal of Vestibular Research: Equilibrium and Orientation)

The role of the stria vascularis in neglected otologic disease
In this study, we review the physiology of the SV, lay out the importance of these neglected otologic diseases, highlight the current literature regarding the role of the SV in these disorders, and discuss the current strategies, both approved and investigational, for management of these disorders.PMID:36584545 | DOI:10.1016/j.heares.2022.108682 (Source: Hearing Research)

Genetic advances in Meniere Disease
Mol Biol Rep. 2022 Dec 24. doi: 10.1007/s11033-022-08149-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMeniere Disease (MD) is an idiopathic inner ear disease with complex etiology and pathogenesis, which is still unclear. With the development in gene analysis technology, the genetic research of MD has attracted extensive attention, resulting in a large number of studies on the research of the relationship between human genes and MD. This paper aims to review the studies on this topic in recent years. The studies mainly focused on the genetics of familial MD and the correlation between MD and potentially related functional genes. The r...

Vestibular migraine or Meniere's disease: a diagnostic dilemma
AbstractMeniere ’s disease (MD) represents one of the vertigo disorders characterized by triad symptoms (recurrent vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss, tinnitus or ear fullness). The diagnosis of MD relies on the accurate and detailed taking of medical history, and the differentiation between MD and vestibular migr aine (VM) is of critical importance from the perspective of the treatment efficacy. VM is a highly prevalent vertigo condition and its typical symptoms (headache, vestibular symptoms, cochlear symptoms) mimic those of MD. Furthermore, the misdiagnosis in MD and VM could lead to VM patients mistakenl y receiving ...
