Types of Inheritance and Genes Associated with Familial Meniere Disease
J Assoc Res Otolaryngol. 2023 Apr 6. doi: 10.1007/s10162-023-00896-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMeniere disease (MD) is a rare disorder of the inner ear defined by sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) associated with episodes of vertigo and tinnitus. The phenotype is variable, and it may be associated with other comorbidities such as migraine, respiratory allergies, and several autoimmune disorders. The condition has a significant heritability according to epidemiological and familial segregation studies. Familial MD is found in 10% of cases, the most frequently found genes being OTOG, MYO7A, and TECTA, previously associa...

These findings suggest a new hypo...

Limitation of updated MR images on the vestibular hydrops in Meniere ’s disease
ConclusionLimitations of the updated MR imaging for visualizing the hydrops comprised: (1) failure to correlate vestibular hydrops with VEMP results, and (2) failure to correlate grade of cochlear hydrops with MHL. The reason is probably because updated MR imaging fails to identify distorted contour of the cochlea/utricle/saccule. Further advanced technique using ultrahigh resolution of fine structures in the inner ear compartments is essential to promote a wider use of MR imaging. Untargeted Metabolomic Analysis in Endolymphatic Sac Luminal Fluid from Patients with Meniere ’s Disease
AbstractDysfunction of the endolymphatic sac (ES) is one of the etiologies of Meniere ’s disease (MD), the mechanism of which remains unclear. The aim of the present study was to explore the molecular pathological characteristics of ES during the development of MD. Metabolomic profiling of ES luminal fluid from patients with MD and patients with acoustic neuroma (AN) was performed. Diluted ES luminal fluid (ELF) samples were obtained from 10 patients who underwent endolymphatic duct blockage for the treatment of intractable MD and from 6 patients who underwent translabyrinthine surgery for AN. ELF analysis was performed ...

Perspectives of Emergency Physicians, Primary Care Physicians, and Otolaryngologists on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute Vertigo
CONCLUSIONS: In this study, significant differences were found in the AV care provided by different specialties. Standardized education systems for AV (symposiums, congresses, scientific activities, etc., with multidisciplinary participation) may be beneficial for improving the diagnosis and treatment process of AV in our country.PMID:36995903 | DOI:10.1044/2022_AJA-22-00146 (Source: American Journal of Audiology)

Genes, Vol. 14, Pages 831: Rare Coding Variants in Patients with Non-Syndromic Vestibular Dysfunction
This study aimed to identify rare, coding variants in children with peripheral vertigo but no hearing loss, and in patients with potentially overlapping phenotypes, namely, Meniere’s disease or idiopathic scoliosis. Rare variants were selected from the exome sequence data of 5 American children with vertigo, 226 Spanish patients with Meniere’s disease, and 38 European–American probands with scoliosis. In children with vertigo, 17 variants were found in 15 genes involved in migraine, musculoskeletal phenotypes, and vestibular development. Three genes, OTOP1, HMX3, and LAMA2, have kn...
