Acupuncture Therapy for Peripheral Vestibular Vertigo (with Suspected M énière's Disease)
CONCLUSIONS: This case report shows that acupuncture therapy was very helpful for a patient with peripheral vestibular vertigo. Acupuncture can be used to treat patients who have vertigo and contraindications to pharmacologic therapies, and can to reduce side-effects of pharmacologic therapies. Further investigation of acupuncture therapy for peripheral vertigo is warranted.PMID:37095787 | PMC:PMC10122261 | DOI:10.1089/acu.2022.0012 (Source: Acupuncture in Medicine)

Evaluation of changes in endolymphatic volume after middle ear pressure therapy for intractable meniere's disease using 3D magnetic resonance imaging
CONCLUSIONS: The obtained results indicate that MEPT as well as ELSD could be a good treatment option for patients with intractable MD.PMID:37067367 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2195882 (Source: Acta Oto-Laryngologica)

Application of supervised machine learning algorithms for the evaluation of utricular function on patients with Meniere's disease: utilizing subjective visual vertical and ocular-vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials
This study seeks to further elucidate utricular function in patients with Meniere's disease (MD) in three ways: (1) We aimed to disambiguate the role of the Subjective Visual Vertical (SVV) and Ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential (o-VEMP) tests regarding which utricular subsystem each is measuring. (2) We sought to characterize the acute and chronic state of MD by identifying differences in the relationship of SVV and o-VEMP results across patients with acute and chronic MD. (3) We attempted to find a machine-learning algorithm that could predict acute versus chronic MD using SVV and o-VEMP.METHODS: A prospective s...

Saccular functions differ for Meniere ’s disease with and without coexisting headaches
ConclusionThe present study revealed differences in patients with MD depending on the presence or absence of headaches. MD without headaches showed a significant male preponderance. MD with coexisting headaches was more associated with severe saccular dysfunctions than MD without headaches. Concomitant headache may affect the manifestations of the vestibular function, especially in the sacculus, in MD cases. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Relationship between stress levels and endolymphatic space volume in Meniere's disease
Since the first report by Hallpike and Yamakawa in 1938, many more patients with Meniere's disease (MD) with endolymphatic hydrops (EHs) have been described. Mental/physical stress and a subsequent increase in the release of the anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) supposedly triggers MD. In the present study, to assess the relationship between stress and EHs, we conducted a series of stress-related questionnaires as well as a 3D endolymphatic space (ELS) analysis in patients with unilateral MD.
