Subjective visual horizontal correlates better with ocular than with cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials
CONCLUSIONS: SVH correlates better with oVEMP than cVEMP symmetry.SIGNIFICANCE: This finding reinforces the hypothesis of a common utricular origin for both SVH and oVEMPs which is distinct from the saccular origin of cVEMPs.PMID:37257318 | DOI:10.1016/j.clinph.2023.04.011 (Source: Clinical Neurophysiology)

Debilitating Gentamicin Ototoxicity: Case Report and Recommendations Against Routine Use in Surgical Prophylaxis
We present a case of a woman with preexisting Meniere's Disease who received gentamicin 400 mg perioperatively for a sigmoidectomy due to a penicillin allergy listed in the patient's medical record. The patient developed severe ototoxicity preventing her from working or driving. Physical examination was remarkable for a broad-based gait requiring assistance to walk and bilateral corrective saccades. Vestibular testing revealed high-grade bilateral vestibular loss associated with all semicircular canals, a considerable decline compared to her function 3 years prior.DISCUSSION: Gentamicin is indicated for surgical prophylaxi...

The effect of vascular risk factors on the efficacy of endolymphatic sac decompression surgery for Meniere ’s disease: a retrospective cohort study
ConclusionVascular risk factors have little effect on the efficacy of ESD in patients with Meniere’s disease. Patients with one or more vascular risk factors can still experience a not poor vertigo control and improved quality of life after ESD. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Direction-changing spontaneous nystagmus in patients with dizziness
ConclusionsAlthough the periodicity of DCSN could not be determined because of insufficiently long observation times, it was observed in various central and peripheral vestibulopathies. Careful examination of spontaneous nystagmus over a sufficient period may ensure the detection of DCSN when evaluating dizziness. (Source: European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology)

Multiple genetic variants involved in both autoimmunity and autoinflammation detected in Chinese patients with sporadic Meniere's disease: a preliminary study
ConclusionPatients with sporadic MD carry multiple genetic variants involved in multiple steps of immune regulation, which might render patients susceptible to developing inflammation via both autoimmune and autoinflammation mechanisms upon internal stress. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Correlation between grading methods of the cochlear endolymphatic hydrops and hearing loss in meniere's disease using three-dimensional real inversion recovery sequences
CONCLUSIONS: The grading consistency of M2, M3, M4 is relatively higher than that of M1, and M2 shows the strongest correlation with hearing loss.SIGNIFICANCE: Our results provide a more accurate method for assessing the clinical severity of MD.PMID:37195094 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2209134 (Source: Acta Oto-Laryngologica)
