Anesthetic management during laparoscopic liver resection in a patient with Fontan physiology and high central venous pressure
The Fontan procedure was developed in 1971 for the surgical palliation of patients with single ventricle physiology [1]. In patients with Fontan physiology, pulmonary perfusion depends on pulmonary vascular resistance and systemic venous pressure. Long-term survival after the Fontan procedure has improved [2]. However, chronically high venous pressure may cause liver congestion and lead to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) [3]. (Source: Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1665: Stereotactic Radiosurgery for Patients with Brain Metastases from Hepatopancreaticobiliary Cancers
Conclusions: Metastatic spread to the brain from HPB cancers occurs late in the course of the primary disease. In this study, all deceased patients ultimately died from primary disease progression. SRS is a non-invasive strategy that maximally preserves quality of life, and our results reported favorable outcomes compared to the existing literature. SRS should be considered as one of the primary management strategies for patients with brain metastatic spread from HPB cancer. (Source: Cancers)

A rationally designed nuclei-targeting FAPI 04-based molecular probe with enhanced tumor uptake for PET/CT and fluorescence imaging
ConclusionsThe NOTA-FAPI-MB was successfully synthesized, in which FAPI and MB simultaneously contributed to the targeting effect. Notably, the nuclear delivery mechanism of the probes improved intracellular retention time and targeting efficacy, broadening the imaging time window for fluorescence imaging. In vivo PET/CT demonstrated favorable performance of NOTA-FAPI-MB compared to [18F]F-FDG. This study highlights the significance of fluorescence imaging as an adjunct technique to PET/CT. Furthermore, the encouraging results obtained from the imaging of human HCC tissues hold promise for the potential application of NOTA...

Assessment of Portuguese fitness centers: bridging the knowledge gap on harmful microbial contamination with focus on fungi
This study intends to characterize microbial contamination in Portuguese FC by passive sampling methods: electrostatic dust collectors (EDC) (N=39), settled dust (N=8), vacuum filters (N=8), and used cleaning mops (N=12). The obtained extracts were plated in selective culture media for fungi and bacteria. Filters, EDC, and mop samples' extracts were also screened for antifungal resistance and used for the molecular detection of the selected Aspergillus sections. The detection of mycotoxins was conducted using a high-performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) system and to determine the cytotoxicity of microbial contaminants r...

Comprehensive study of the interplay between immunological and metabolic factors in hepatic steatosis
Int Immunopharmacol. 2024 Apr 23;133:112091. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2024.112091. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe pathophysiology of hepatic steatosis is thoroughly reviewed in this comprehensive report, with particular attention to the complex interactions between inflammatory pathways, insulin resistance, lipid metabolism, metabolic dysregulation, and immunological responses in the liver including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The study highlights the role of immune cell regulation in disease progression and explores the potential of i...
