Insight of the Biopharmaceutical Implication of Sleeve Gastrectomy on Levothyroxine Absorption in Hypothyroidism Patients
ConclusionThe LT4 required doses significantly reduced after sleeve gastrectomy, which can be related to the improved endogenous thyroid production in patients with obesity. However, the abnormality of the GIT induced by the sleeve gastrectomy may affect the exogenous LT4 absorption. Using liquid forms of LT4 while monitoring the thyroid function parameters can optimize the treatment after the procedure.Graphical Abstract (Source: Obesity Surgery)

The negative impact of levothyroxine treatment on urinary luteinizing hormone measurements in pediatric patients with thyroid disease
ConclusionFMV total U-LH determinations by LIA can be used to assess pubertal development in patients with thyroid pathology, provided the euthyroid patient is not on levothyroxine treatment. U-TSH measurements by LIA cannot replace invasive S-TSH measurements at least in patients with normal S-TSH levels. Further research may reveal the utility of U-TSH determinations in patients with elevated S-TSH levels. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Assessment for bone health in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma after postoperative thyroid-stimulating hormone suppression therapy: a new fracture risk assessment algorithm
CONCLUSIONS: FRAX is suitable for postoperative DTC patients after TSH suppressive therapy. In the absence of BMD, TSH weighted by age can improve the specificity of FRAX in the diagnosis of osteoporosis in this population.PMID:38075039 | PMC:PMC10698692 | DOI:10.3389/fendo.2023.1286947 (Source: Cancer Control)

Levothyroxine supplementation does not improve heart transplantation from brain-dead donors
Nature Reviews Cardiology, Published online: 08 December 2023; doi:10.1038/s41569-023-00980-1The use of intravenous levothyroxine does not increase the likelihood of hearts being transplanted from haemodynamically unstable, brain-dead potential donors, suggesting that current practice recommendations should be revised. Twice or thrice weekly levothyroxine provides similar rates of adherence and post-Ramadan euthyroidism compared to daily levothyroxine during Ramadan fasting
ConclusionTwice or thrice weekly levothyroxine results in similarly high rates of adherence (96.5%) and post-Ramadan euthyroidism (91.2%) compared to daily levothyroxine during Ramadan fasting. (Source: Thyroid Research)

Basal or stimulated thyroglobulin in evaluating response to treatment in papillary thyroid carcinoma? A retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: Response to therapy at 1 year using STg was altered in approximately 20% of cases and therefore proved to be a better predictor of excellent response in the last evaluation.PMID:38015413 | DOI:10.1007/s42000-023-00503-0 (Source: Hormones)

A case report of anti-GAD65 antibody-positive autoimmune encephalitis in children associated with autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type-II and literature review
ConclusionOur findings suggest that anti-GAD65 antibody-positive autoimmune encephalitis patients may concurrently present with other APS. Our unique case presented with multiple endocrine syndromes and represents the first reported occurrence in children. Early diagnosis and timely initiation of immunotherapy are crucial for improving clinical symptoms and reducing the likelihood of relapses or permanent disabilities. Therefore, emphasis should be placed on prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment implementation to achieve better patient outcomes. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)
