Postoperative hypothalamic-pituitary dysfunction and long-term hormone replacement in patients with childhood-onset craniopharyngioma
ConclusionThis study is a large-sample systematic postoperative endocrine function evaluation of patients with childhood-onset CP. Due to the high prevalence of post-operative hypothalamic-pituitary dysfunction, patients with CP usually require long-term multiple hormone substitution therapy. Individualized management and accurate hormone replacement dosage for postoperative childhood-onset CP patients are of great importance. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

27-Year-Old Woman With Hypoxemia
A 27-year-old woman presented to the clinic for home pulse oximetry readings persistently below 90% with associated dyspnea for several months. She denied additional complaints. Her medical history was notable for bipolar disorder, type I diabetes, hypertension, obesity, hypothyroidism, gastroesophageal reflux disease, prior cholecystectomy, and episodic jaundice. Medications on presentation were lamotrigine, insulin, hydrochlorothiazide, levothyroxine, and omeprazole. Episodic jaundice had been attributed to glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency diagnosed at 2 years of age when the patient developed acute an...

Predictors of thyroid adverse events during cancer immunotherapy: a real-life experience at a single center
ConclusionOur data confirm the high frequency of thyroid dysfunctions (mostly hypothyroidism) during ICIs, and provide data on valuable predictors of thyroid toxicities that may help clinicians in identifying patients at risk for developing irAEs. (Source: Journal of Endocrinological Investigation)

Preexisting Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension in Acute Pulmonary Embolism? A Case Report and Discussion
Hamostaseologie. 2023 Oct 30. doi: 10.1055/a-2173-7712. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 61-year-old male presented with New York Heart Association class II breathlessness. Three years earlier, he had presented with a swollen leg, had received a diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis on ultrasound and of low-risk acute pulmonary embolism, and had been discharged on a direct oral anticoagulant after 8 hours. The patient also had a history of thyroidectomy and was on levothyroxine substitution. The case illustrates a patient with acute pulmonary embolism who developed chronic thrombotic pulmonary vascular lesions within 3 years af...

Optimising levothyroxine treatment for subclinical hypothyroidism during pregnancy
Curr Med Res Opin. 2023 Oct 28:1-12. doi: 10.1080/03007995.2023.2276120. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe onset of pregnancy places additional stress of the thyroid gland, which must produce additional thyroid hormones to support the developing foetus. Hypothyroidism, including subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) may appear de novo at this time, or existing thyroid disease may become more severe. Accordingly, SCH is a relatively common complication of up to about 3% of pregnancies, with higher rates in some areas. There is strong evidence from systematic reviews and meta-analyses that uncontrolled SCH is associated with an i...

Efficacy of Levothyroxine Sodium Soft Gelatin Capsules in Thyroidectomized Patients Taking Proton Pump Inhibitors: an Open-Label Study
CONCLUSIONS: In thyroidectomized patients taking PPIs and replacement levothyroxine, a switch from conventional LT4 tablets to LT4 soft capsules at the same dose was associated with significant decrease in TSH and increase in thyroid hormone, indicating that LT4 absorption may be less affected by PPIs when given in the form of soft capsules.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: NCT03094416.PMID:37885233 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0382 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Sonographic Evolution and Pathologic Findings of Papillary Thyroid Cancer after Radiofrequency Ablation: a 5-Year Retrospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: US-guided RFA is an effective treatment for small low-risk PTC. Tumor disappearance on US after RFA may suggest an excellent prognosis and confirm complete ablation of the macroscopic tumor, but this sonographic finding is generally late and requires histological confirmation.PMID:37885207 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0415 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

A cross-sectional analysis of cardiovascular and bone healthcare utilization during treatment with thyroid hormone
CONCLUSION: No significant differences in CVD and BH-related healthcare utilization were identified between LT4 and DTE/LT4 + LT3 users after covariate balancing. Non-MD providers were more likely to prescribe DTE.PMID:37878964 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad629 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)
