Absence of evidence of transfusion transmission risk of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in the United States: Results froma 28-year lookback study
We report on a 28-year lookback study of recipients of blood from donors who subsequently developed CJD.METHODS: Patients with diagnosed CJD and a history of blood donation were identified. Blood centers were asked to provide information about the distribution of the donations and consignees were requested to provide information about the recipients of the donations. Vital status of each available recipient was determined and, if deceased, the reported cause(s) of death were obtained primarily from the National Death Index. All recipients included in the study database contributed person-time up to the last recorded review...

ChatGPT in mental health care
CONCLUSION: ChatGPT has the potential to significantly transform MHC, from streamlining administrative tasks to enhancing therapeutic contact. Aspects such as privacy and information accuracy should be central in its implementation. While current scientific evidence is still quite limited, ChatGPT already offers possibilities that should now be utilized by healthcare professionals. It is crucial that therapists form an opinion about ChatGPT, and institutions should be willing to invest in this innovative technology.PMID:38650514 (Source: Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie)

Effects of Recreational Cannabis Legalization on Mental Health: Scoping Review
CONCLUSIONS: Clinicians, researchers, and policy makers need to collaborate to address the research gaps and to develop evidence-based policies that reflect a thorough understanding of the effects associated with RCL.PMID:38650490 | DOI:10.1176/appi.ps.20230434 (Source: Psychiatric Services)

Patient-related stressful experiences in  psychiatry residency
CONCLUSION: In this study new patient related stressful experiences are reported that have not previously been described in the literature. Since estimating the impact of a patient related stressful experience proves difficult, it seems appropriate that the environment of the resident offers active support and further development of residents’ skills is stimulated.PMID:38650512 (Source: Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie)

National Consensus on Contraindications for Corneal Donation for Transplantation in Switzerland
CONCLUSION: Given that corneal transplantation is the most commonly performed transplantation, establishing a consensus on contraindications is crucial for recipient safety. The creation of a consensus on contraindications for corneal donation in Switzerland is an essential contribution to fulfil the legal requirements concerning quality assurance and provides sufficient high-quality donor tissue within the country. Therefore, periodic review and revision of the consensus is considered critical.PMID:38653295 | DOI:10.1055/a-2211-9614 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

Restoring Children From Out ‐of‐Home Care: Insights From an Aboriginal‐Led Community Forum
ABSTRACTRestoring children from out-of-home care (OOHC) to their families is the preferred outcome for all children removed by child protection services, yet little is known about how restoration processes are experienced by families and services supporting them. This paper provides important insights about Aboriginal child restoration from 40 practitioners and stakeholders at a community forum led by Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations in regional New South Wales (NSW), Australia. This is one component of larger Aboriginal-led research, which investigates child protection experiences and pathways to successful r...

Are legal experts better decision makers than jurors? A psychological evaluation of the role of juries in the 21st century
Lee Curley, Till Neuhaus Journal of Criminal Psychology, Vol. ahead-of-print, No. ahead-of-print, pp.- The Scottish Government hope to pilot judge only rape trials to increase the woefully low rape conviction rates in Scotland. The reasoning is that by removing jurors, the court will be attenuating the role that rape myths and other cognitive and social biases have on conviction rates. However, a plethora of research from cognitive and social psychology, legal literature and decision-making science has shown that experts, including judges and other legal professionals, may be no less biased than laypeople. This paper aims...

Prostate-specific Membrane Antigen: Alpha-labeled Radiopharmaceuticals
Novel prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) ligands labeled with α-emitting radionuclides are sparking a growing interest in prostate cancer treatment. These targeted alpha therapies (TATs) have attractive physical properties that deem them effective in progressive metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). Among the PSMA TAT radiopharmaceuticals, [2 25Ac]Ac-PSMA has been used extensively on a compassionate basis and is currently undergoing phase I trials. Notably, TAT has the potential to improve quality of life and has favorable antitumor activity and outcomes in multiple scenarios other than in mCRPC. I...
