Quantitative analysis of iodine and bromine in soil using an energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer with three-dimensional polarized optics
Anal Sci. 2024 Mar 26. doi: 10.1007/s44211-024-00541-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA nondestructive and simple method for the determination of bromine and iodine in soil was investigated using an energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer equipped with three-dimensional polarized optics. Using a gadolinium X-ray tube and Mo and Al2O3 as optimal secondary target materials, K-lines were detected for bromine and iodine. The minimum detection limits for bromine and iodine were calculated using JSAC0411, a certified reference material of soil for metal composition analysis, and were 0.77 mg/kg for bromine and 2.3 mg/k...

New Reference Values for Thyroid Volume by Ultrasound in German Children and Adolescents from a Population-Based Study
CONCLUSIONS: The reference values provided by the WHO are overly conservative for this population and could potentially apply to other European countries with a similar history of iodine supply.PMID:38529838 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae194 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Imaging the Iodine Sorption ‐Induced Synchronous Skeleton–Pore Interactions of Single Covalent Organic Framework Particles
Operando dark-field optical microscopy reveals an unexpected synchronous skeleton –pore interaction of single 2D covalent organic framework particles during the sorption of I2 vapor, accompanying a distinct color change from yellow to red and an obvious structural contraction. The reaction mechanism is attributed to the multi-directional halogen-bonding networks and cation- π interactions between oxidized and unoxidized skeletons. AbstractCovalent organic frameworks (COFs) are promising iodine adsorbents. For improved performances, it is critical and essential to fundamentally understand the underlying mechanism. Here, ...

How young radiologists use contrast media and manage adverse reactions: an international survey
ConclusionTraining in CM use and management ADR should be implemented in the training of radiology residents.Critical relevance statementWe highlight the need for improvement in the education of young radiologists regarding contrast media; more attention from residency programs and scientific societies should be focused on training about contrast media use and the management of adverse drug reactions.Key points• This survey investigated training of young radiologists about use of contrast media and management adverse reactions.• Most young radiologists claimed they did not receive dedicated training.• An extreme hete...

Enhanced benzene vapor adsorption through microwave-assisted fabrication of activated carbon from peanut shells using ZnCl < sub > 2 < /sub > as an activating agent
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Mar 25. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-32973-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHerein, microwave-assisted activated carbon (MW-AC) was fabricated from peanut shells using a ZnCl2 activator and utilized for the first time to eliminate benzene vapor as a volatile organic compound (VOC). During the MW-AC production process, which involved two steps-microwave treatment and muffle furnace heating-we investigated the effects of various factors and achieved the highest iodine number of 1250 mg/g. This was achieved under optimal operating conditions, which included a 100% impregnation ratio, CO2 as the gas...

Occult Thyroid Carcinoma with Cervical Lymph Node Metastasis: A Rare Case Report
AbstractCervical lymph node metastasis is one of the most common clinical presentations of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Occult thyroid carcinoma is described as absence of primary tumour or with presence of microcarcinoma in thyroid with cervical lymph node metastasis. Frequency of occult thyroid cancer has decreased due to developments in imaging and improved accuracy of histological examinations. 38  year old male presented to us with complaints of swelling over the left side of neck for the past 2 months. Ultrasonography was suggestive of multiple suspicious enlarged nodes in left level II, III, IV and V and fin...

Physical and dosimetric characterisation of different Contrast-Enhanced digital mammographic systems: A multicentric study
CONCLUSION: The subtracted image showed the ability of all the systems to give important information about the linearity of the signal with the iodine concentrations. All the patient-collected doses were under the AGD EUREF 2D Acceptable limit, except for patients with thicknesses ≤35 mm belonging to GE Healthcare and Hologic, which were slightly over. This work demonstrates the importance of testing each CEDM system to know how it performs regarding dose and the relationship between PV and iodine concentration.PMID:38520889 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejmp.2024.103334 (Source: Cancer Control)

Management of Poorly Differentiated Thyroid Cancer and Differentiated High-Grade Thyroid Carcinoma
Thyroid carcinoma of follicular cell origin exists on a histopathologic and clinical spectrum. The authors focus on the category of tumors that fall between the very favorable well-differentiated thyroid carcinomas and the very unfavorable anaplastic thyroid carcinomas. These intermediately aggressive tumors include poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma and the newly defined differentiated high-grade thyroid carcinoma. Both diagnoses require certain histopathologic requirements be met in order to accurately identify these tumors post-operatively. Management remains primarily surgical though adjunctive treatments such as ...
