Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Mar 25. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-32973-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHerein, microwave-assisted activated carbon (MW-AC) was fabricated from peanut shells using a ZnCl2 activator and utilized for the first time to eliminate benzene vapor as a volatile organic compound (VOC). During the MW-AC production process, which involved two steps-microwave treatment and muffle furnace heating-we investigated the effects of various factors and achieved the highest iodine number of 1250 mg/g. This was achieved under optimal operating conditions, which included a 100% impregnation ratio, CO2 as the gas...

Occult Thyroid Carcinoma with Cervical Lymph Node Metastasis: A Rare Case Report
AbstractCervical lymph node metastasis is one of the most common clinical presentations of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Occult thyroid carcinoma is described as absence of primary tumour or with presence of microcarcinoma in thyroid with cervical lymph node metastasis. Frequency of occult thyroid cancer has decreased due to developments in imaging and improved accuracy of histological examinations. 38  year old male presented to us with complaints of swelling over the left side of neck for the past 2 months. Ultrasonography was suggestive of multiple suspicious enlarged nodes in left level II, III, IV and V and fin...

Physical and dosimetric characterisation of different Contrast-Enhanced digital mammographic systems: A multicentric study
CONCLUSION: The subtracted image showed the ability of all the systems to give important information about the linearity of the signal with the iodine concentrations. All the patient-collected doses were under the AGD EUREF 2D Acceptable limit, except for patients with thicknesses ≤35 mm belonging to GE Healthcare and Hologic, which were slightly over. This work demonstrates the importance of testing each CEDM system to know how it performs regarding dose and the relationship between PV and iodine concentration.PMID:38520889 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejmp.2024.103334 (Source: Cancer Control)

Management of Poorly Differentiated Thyroid Cancer and Differentiated High-Grade Thyroid Carcinoma
Thyroid carcinoma of follicular cell origin exists on a histopathologic and clinical spectrum. The authors focus on the category of tumors that fall between the very favorable well-differentiated thyroid carcinomas and the very unfavorable anaplastic thyroid carcinomas. These intermediately aggressive tumors include poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma and the newly defined differentiated high-grade thyroid carcinoma. Both diagnoses require certain histopathologic requirements be met in order to accurately identify these tumors post-operatively. Management remains primarily surgical though adjunctive treatments such as ...

Dual-Energy Computed Tomography Applications in Rheumatology
Dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) has emerged as a transformative tool in the past decade. Initially employed in gout within the field of rheumatology to distinguish and quantify monosodium urate crystals through its dual-material discrimination capability, DECT has since broadened its clinical applications. It now encompasses various rheumatic diseases, employing advanced techniques such as bone marrow edema assessment, iodine mapping, and collagen-specific imaging. This review article aims to examine the unique characteristics of DECT, discuss its strengths and limitations, illustrate its applications for accurately...

Artificial saliva induced structural breakdown of surimi gels with starch under continuous compressive motions
Food Res Int. 2024 Apr;182:114156. doi: 10.1016/j.foodres.2024.114156. Epub 2024 Feb 22.ABSTRACTFood texture perception is dynamic, influenced by food properties and oral processing. Using the Repeatable Dual Extrusion Cell (RDEC), the oral processing dynamics of surimi gel with different corn starch concentrations (0-15%) in the presence of 1 ml artificial saliva or water were studied. The force-time curve showed increased peak forces with higher corn starch concentrations, peaking significantly at 10%, then decreasing at 15%. Salivary amylase played a crucial role in gel sample degradation, especially in samples with 5% ...

One-step synthesis of Ag@polyaniline core –shell particles for efficient removal of radioactive iodine
AbstractA silver-based material coated with polyaniline (Ag@PANI) was successfully synthesized to effectively remove I2 and I−. Experimental results showed the sorption capacity of I2 by Ag@PANI reached 132 wt.%, and the I− uptake capacity reached 419.6  mg·g−1. Additionally, Ag@PANI could effectively remove up to 99.9% of low I−-contaminated water, and the distribution coefficient (Kd) toward I− reaches 4.65  × 106 mL·g−1. Adsorption mechanism showed I2 and I− were immobilized on Ag@PANI by conversion to AgI. Moreover, electrostatic interactions might result in higher I− retention ability. Overall...

The Role of Grain Boundaries on Ion Migration and Charge Recombination in Halide Perovskites
Understanding defects engineering related to ion migration is crucial for enhancing the long-term stability and performance of hybrid perovskite solar cells. Iodine vacancies accumulate at grain boundaries due to lower formation energy and higher migration potential barrier compared to those in the bulk, which further increase the nonradiative recombination. AbstractGrain boundaries (GBs) have a significant role in polycrystalline perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, there is ongoing debate regarding the impact of GBs on the performance and long-term stability of PSCs. Employing the first-principles molecular dynamics f...

Presurgical vaginal preparation regimens for antisepsis in gynecologic surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ACOG does not currently endorse a standard regimen for vaginal preparation prior to gynecologic surgery, but does recommend the use of alcohol-based agents for abdominal preparation. Chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) is often found as an alcohol-based solution and is thus commonly used for abdominal skin preparation. Contrastingly, povidone-iodine (PI), is often found in aqueous form and the only surgical preparation currently approved by the FDA for pre-operative vaginal antisepsis. Several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have assessed differences in these preparation regimens regarding antiseptic efficacy, but there rema...
