A Prospective Cohort Study Exploring the Effect of Lenvatinib Planned Drug Holidays in Treatment of Differentiated Thyroid Cancer
Conclusions: Planned drug holidays for lenvatinib were associated with significantly improved clinical outcomes compared to daily oral administration. Further investigation of the optimal treatment schedule for lenvatinib is warranted. Using haematological indices to predict impaired liver function in DTC patients
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that PC and ALC are independent predictors of hypo-related liver injury. Our study is the first to suggest that haematological indices can be used for predicting the development and progression of hypo-related liver disorders.PMID:38629813 | DOI:10.1967/s002449912700 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Nuclear Medicine)

Evaluation of hafnium oxide nanoparticles imaging characteristics as a contrast agent in X-ray computed tomography
AbstractThis research aimed to compare the quantitative imaging attributes of synthesized hafnium oxide nanoparticles (NPs) derived from UiO-66-NH2(Hf) and two gadolinium- and iodine-based clinical contrast agents (CAs) using cylindrical phantom. Aqueous solutions of the studied CAs, containing 2.5, 5, and 10  mg/mL of HfO2NPs, gadolinium, and iodine, were prepared. Constructed within a cylindrical phantom, 15  cc small tubes were filled with CAs. Maintaining constant mAs, the phantom underwent scanning at tube voltage variations from 80 to 140 kVp. The CT numbers were quantified in Hounsfield units (HU), and the contras...

A Highly Sterically Encumbered Boron Lewis Acid Enabled by a Organotellurium-based Ligand
Chemistry. 2024 Apr 16:e202401231. doi: 10.1002/chem.202401231. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLewis acidic boron compounds are ubiquitous in chemistry due to their numerous applications, yet tuning and optimizing their properties towards different purposes is still a challenging field of research. In this work, the boron Lewis acid B[OTeF3(C6F5)2]3 was synthesized by reaction of the teflate derivative HOTeF3(C6F5)2 with BCl3 or BCl3·SMe2. This new compound presents a remarkably high thermal stability up to 300 °C, as well as one of the most sterically encumbered boron centres known in the literature. Theoretical and expe...

Synthesis of Calix[4]arene-Based Porous Organic Cages and Their Gas Adsorption
Chemistry. 2024 Apr 15:e202400947. doi: 10.1002/chem.202400947. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTwo crystalline large-sized porous organic cages (POCs) based on conical calix[4]arene (C4A) were designed and synthesized. The four-jaw C4A unit tends to follow the face-directed self-assembly law with the planar triangular building blocks such as tris(4-aminophenyl)amine (TAPA) or 1,3,5-tris(4-aminophenyl)benzene (TAPB) to generate a predictable cage with a stoichiometry of [6+8]. The formation of the large cages is confirmed through their relative molecular mass measured using MALDI-TOF/TOF spectra. The protonated molecular ion...

Association Between Iodine Status and Prevalence of Hypothyroidism, Autoimmune Thyroiditis, and Thyroid Nodule: a Cross-Sectional Study in Shandong Province, China
This study identified associations between different UIC levels and the prevalence of thyroid disorders, with low UIC (< 100 μg/L) posing a risk for TN, and the detection rate of TN and hypothyroidism was the lowest in UIC (200-299 μg/L) group. Therefore, the acceptable UIC range of 'adequate' iodine intake among adults can be widened from 100-199 µg/L to 100-299 µg/L.PMID:38619679 | DOI:10.1007/s12011-024-04179-4 (Source: Biological Trace Element Research)

Endemic status of urogenital schistosomiasis and the efficacy of a single-dose praziquantel treatment in unmapped rural farming communities in Oyo East Local Government Area, Oyo State, Nigeria
ConclusionUrogenital schistosomiasis was hyperendemic in the Ajagba community, and hypoendemic in the Awosan community. The presence ofBulinus globosus supported the transmission of the schistosomiasis in the Ajagba community. Communities where schistosomiasis is still actively transmitted in Nigeria should be identified for effective intervention through the MDA programs. (Source: PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases)

The impact of delayed diagnosis and treatment due to COVID-19 on Australian thyroid cancer patients: a qualitative interview study
Conclusions This study highlights an increased psychological burden in patients with thyroid cancer who experienced delayed diagnosis and/or treatment during COVID-19. The impacts experienced by patients during this time may be similar in the case of other unexpected delays and highlight the need for regular clinical review during delays to diagnosis or treatment. Paraaortic Extra-Adrenal Paraganglioma: Challenging Robotic Resection
CONCLUSIONS: Robotic-assisted resection can be safe and effective for retroperitoneal malignant paragangliomas. However, management extends beyond surgery and requires cascade genetic testing to address familial risks. Because of the high probability of cancer associated with SDHB mutation, lifelong patient surveillance is imperative.PMID:38615151 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15267-z (Source: Ann Oncol)
