Impact of consuming an environmentally protective diet on micronutrients: a systematic literature review
CONCLUSIONS: Lower intakes and status of MNs of public health concern are a potential outcome of dietary changes to reduce environmental impacts. Adequate consideration of context and nutritional requirements is required to develop evidence-based recommendations. This study was registered prospectively with PROSPERO (CRD42021239713).PMID:38569787 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2024.01.014 (Source: Am J Clin Nutr)

Case report: Highly response to low-dose brachytherapy in recurrent retroperitoneal leiomyosarcoma with FANCD2 frameshift mutation: a unique case study
We report a case of recurrent retroperitoneal leiomyosarcoma in a male who achieved a rapid and robust but transient clinical response to low-dose iodine-125 brachytherapy. A FANCD2 frameshift mutation was detected by gene sequencing in the cancerous tissue. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

SOMOphilic alkyne vs radical-polar crossover approaches: The full story of the azido-alkynylation of alkenes
We report the detailed background for the discovery and development of the synthesis of homopropargylic azides by the azido-alkynylation of alkenes. Initially, a strategy involving SOMOphilic alkynes was adopted, but only resulted in a 29% yield of the desired product. By switching to a radical-polar crossover approach and after optimization, a high yield (72%) of the homopropargylic azide was reached. Full insights are given about the factors that were essential for the success of the optimization process. Beilstein J. Org. Iodine and Gadolinium Contrast Reactions
Immediate hypersensitivity reactions to iodinated contrast media and gadolinium-based contrast media can be life-threatening. While corticosteroid premedication or agent-switching may mitigate risk, evidence is largely indirect and based on historical studies; recent literature refutes the efficacy. Guidance on premedication varies between organizations worldwide. No strategy eliminates reactions, and indirect consequences of premedication are substantial. Accelerated regimens are often used for emergencies, but are of questionable efficacy. Identifying “high-risk” patients is complex, but a history of reactions (to th...

Analysis of Serum Free Thyroxine Concentrations in Healthy Term Neonates Underlines Need for Local and Laboratory-Specific Reference Interval: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Individual Participant Data
Conclusions: We conclude that our attempts at normalizing fT4 assay results were unsuccessful. Confounders related to our unsuccessful analysis may be assay related and/or biological. These findings have significant implications for patient care, since relying on RIs from literature may result in erroneous interpretation of results. Therefore, we strongly recommend to establish local RIs for accurate interpretation of serum fT4 concentrations in neonates.PMID:38563802 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0562 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Lipid Profile Evolution in Graves ’ Disease Treated with Titration Regimen of Anti-Thyroid Drugs Versus Block and Replace Regimen
In this study were included 149 medically treated GD patients, aged+>+18 years. Pregnant women and patients treated with radioactive iodine therapy or partial/total thyroidectomy were excluded. Patients were divided into 2 subgroups: titration (A) and block and replace (B) therapy, according to the ATD regimen used. Thyroid and metabolic profile was measured at baseline and at least one visit during medical treatment. The whole group included 122 (81.87%) females (F) and 27 (18.12%) males (M), ratio F:M=4.5:1. As expected, at the time of diagnosis, ...
