Iron supplementation in patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease: recommendations for a practical approach
Z Gastroenterol. 2024 Apr 24. doi: 10.1055/a-2274-1610. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIron deficiency is the predominant cause of anemia. Iron deficiency anemia plays a major role, especially in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and is the most common extraintestinal manifestation and IBD-associated systemic complication. The presence of anemia leads to a reduction in quality of life in patients with IBD associated with limitations in physical, emotional, and cognitive function. In addition, it is associated with an increased hospitalization rate. For this reason, iron supplementation is of particular importa...

Stratified Patient Profiling for Vedolizumab Effectiveness in Crohn's Disease: Identifying Optimal Subgroups for Enhanced Treatment Response in the EVOLVE Study
CONCLUSIONS: Subpopulations of biologic-naive patients with CD in whom vedolizumab appeared to have a larger effect relative to anti-TNFα agents for the outcome of clinical remission were identified. Validation of the identified subpopulations and simplified rules are warranted to confirm these findings.GOV IDENTIFIER: NCT03710486. GSE247433 MiR-146a alleviates inflammatory bowel disease in mice through systematical regulation of multiple genetic networks
Contributors : Fengting Zhu ; Taotan Yang ; Changgeng PengSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Mus musculusInflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a multiple-genes-involved chronic disease and current available targeted drugs for IBD only deliver moderate efficacy. Whether there is a single gene that systematically regulates IBD is not yet known. Here we showed that the expression of miR-146a in colon was elevated in Dextran Sulfate Sodium Salt (DSS)-induced IBD mice and patients with IBD. DSS induced dramatic body weight loss and much more rectal bleeding, shorter colon length and coli...

Systematic Literature Review on the Incidence of Herpes Zoster in Populations at Increased Risk of Disease in the EU/EEA, Switzerland, and the UK
ConclusionsThe HZ incidence rate in Europe increased with age and varied across high-risk populations, with high rates for solid organ and stem cell transplants, cancer, and rheumatoid arthritis. Most studies were retrospective with methodological differences affecting generalizability and comparability. Future studies should stratify data by IC population, age, sex, severity, medication, and study timeframe. (Source: Infectious Diseases and Therapy)
