Management and Outcomes of Patients Presenting with Ruptured Hepatic Adenoma: A Single-Center Experience
Hepatic adenoma (HA) is a benign liver lesion associated with size-dependent risk of rupture and life-threatening bleeding. We aimed to assess our center ’s experience with the management and outcomes of patients with ruptured HA. (Source: Journal of the American College of Surgeons)

A systematic review on the complications and management of hepatic adenomas: a call for a new approach
Hepatic adenomas are benign hepatic lesions with heterogeneous characteristics. Awareness of complications, including haemorrhage and malignant transformation, has improved alongside a concurrent rise in their detection. Monitoring and management guidelines, however, remain inconsistent. This systematic review analyses the natural history of hepatic adenomas, and existing and novel risk factors associated with haemorrhage and malignant transformation. Results of this systematic review commonly identified male sex, and the beta-catenin histopathological hepatic adenoma subtype, as risk factors for malignant transformation, ...

Ki-67 “hot spot” digital analysis is useful in the distinction of hepatic adenomas and well-differentiated hepatocellular carcinomas
This study aims to investigate the utility of digital protocols for Ki-67 immunohistochemistry quantitative analysis ( “hot spot” method) in the setting of well-differentiated hepatocellular neoplasms. Resection cases of typical hepatic adenomas (HAs) (n = 40), atypical HAs (n = 9), and well-differentiated hepatocellular carcinomas (WD HCCs) (n = 56) were selected. HAs were further classified by immunohistochemistry using antibodies against liver fatty acid binding protein, glutamine synthetase, B-catenin, hepatic serum amyloid A, and C-reactive protein. Ki-67 proliferative index by immunohistochemistry was...

A Shifting Paradigm in Diagnosis and Management of Hepatic Adenoma.
CONCLUSIONS: Classification of HCA by subtype has important implications for patient counseling and treatment given variable risks of malignant transformation and hemorrhage. Males and those with β-catenin exon 3 mutated HCAs are two groups who should always be counselled to undergo surgical resection. On the other hand, in the lower risk HF1α subtype observation is appropriate in lesions < 5 cm and may even be considered in larger lesions as longer follow-up data is aggregated and tumorigenesis is better understood. Focal Nodular Hyperplasia and Hepatic Adenoma
Focal nodular hyperplasia and hepatocellular adenoma are benign liver lesions that occur most frequently in women and may be found as incidental findings on imaging. hepatocellular adenomas may be infrequently associated with malignant progression or risk of rupture and as such, require surveillance or definitive treatments based on their size threshold. It is important clinically to differentiate these lesions, and utilizing imaging modalities such as contrast enhanced ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging can be helpful in diagnosis. Further molecular subtyping of hepatocellular adenoma lesions may be beneficial to de...

Cancers, Vol. 12, Pages 1407: Exercise Attenuates the Transition from Fatty Liver to Steatohepatitis and Reduces Tumor Formation in Mice
St-Pierre Dufour Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) leads to steatohepatitis (NASH), fibrosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. For sedentary patients, lifestyle interventions combining exercise and dietary changes are a cornerstone of treatment. However, the benefit of exercise alone when dietary changes have failed is uncertain. We query whether exercise alone arrests the progression of NASH and tumorigenesis in a choline-deficient, high-fat diet (CD-HFD) murine model. Male C57Bl/6N mice received a control diet or CD-HFD for 12 weeks. CD-HFD mice were randomized further for 8 weeks of sedentariness (SED) or tr...

Hepatocellular carcinoma arising from hepatic adenoma in a young woman
We present a rare case of hepatocellular carcinoma arising from HA in a young woman with no medication history of oral contraceptives. Surgical resection is the only available treatment. AbstractHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) arising from hepatic adenoma is an infrequent situation. Only a few cases were reported in the literature. We present a rare case of hepatocellular carcinoma arising from HA in a young woman with no medication history of oral contraceptives. Surgical resection is the only available treatment. State-of-the-art MR Imaging of Fat-containing Focal Lesions of the Liver.
CONCLUSION: Liver nodules should be characterised with regard to underlying liver condition, MRI characteristics and contrast enhancement pattern, including hepatobiliary phase. In many cases, identification of fatty content may help narrowing the differential diagnosis. PMID: 32008550 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Current Medical Imaging Reviews)

Development of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Patients with Glycogen Storage Disease: a Single Center Retrospective Study.
CONCLUSION: The present study found that portacaval shunt operation increases the risk of development of hepatic adenoma in GSD patients, especially in GSD type I. The hepatic adenoma in GSD patients has a potential of malignant transformation, which should be keep in mind in follow-up process of the disease. Spontaneous haemorrhage of hepatic adenoma in a patient addicted to anabolic steroids.
Abstract This case report describes a patient with a nearly fatal spontaneous haemorrhage of a hepatic adenoma that occurred in association with anabolic androgenic steroid (AAS) use. The patient was addicted to AAS and had been using exceptionally high dosages as well as growth hormone. After cessation of AAS use, testosterone replacement therapy was started to prevent post-AAShypogonadism and consequent relapse. Hepatic Gene Expression Profiles Differentiate Steatotic and Non-steatotic Grafts in Liver Transplant Recipients
Conclusions: While there is a certain overlap between the results of the current study and published transcriptomic profiles of non-transplanted livers with steatosis, we have identified discrete characteristics of the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in liver grafts potentially utilizable for the establishment of predictive signature. Introduction Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease in industrialized countries, its prevalence being estimated at 19–31.3% (1). It encompasses a range of conditions that are thought to arise from fatty liver (simple steatosis) thr...
