Axillary necklace graft salvage of a locally infected Haemodialysis with Reliable Outflow (HeRO ®) graft
CONCLUSIONS: The originality of this case was the way in which an axillary necklace inflow graft was connected to the pre-existing venous outflow portion of the HeRO® haemodialysis graft system, allowing the excision of the infected inflow graft at the brachial anastomosis. This technique could be viewed as an effective salvage procedure as it allowed the venous outflow portion of the original graft to remain in situ, minimised tissue damage and enabled the patient to swiftly resume haemodialysis without the need for a line.PMID:38653974 | DOI:10.1177/11297298241235866 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Kinetics of Beta2-Microglobulin with Hemodiafiltration and High-Flux Hemodialysis
CONCLUSIONS: A two-pool kinetic model of beta-2-microglobulin yielded values of reduction ratio and pre-dialysis serum concentration that were consistent with measured values with various hemodiafiltration and hemodialysis treatment regimens.PMID:38650079 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.0000000000000461 (Source: Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology : CJASN)

Continuous renal replacement therapy for lithium toxicity: A worthy treatment to avoid intradialytic hypotension and vasopressors
Key Clinical MessageWhile intermittent hemodialysis (HD) is the most efficient method of removing lithium in patients with lithium toxicity, continuous renal replacement therapy is an acceptable alternative in the setting of intradialytic hypotension. This form of dialysis can reduce the need for vasopressors during HD, which increases mortality. (Source: Clinical Case Reports)

Outpatient Hospitalist-Run Procedure Service Bridges the Gap in Oncology Care
Hospitalist-run procedure teams enable expedited care in the inpatient setting. However, wait times for outpatient interventional radiology (IR) are long at our institution. Our study thus aims to compare the safety and wait times between procedural teams and IR placement of outpatient temporary hemodialysis catheters (THDC) for patients undergoing Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy apheresis.A retrospective chart review was conducted on all patients receiving outpatient THDC for CART therapy from August 2019 until November 2022. "inserting the etonorgestrel implant into the thigh: a case report"
Traditionally, etonorgestrel implant is inserted on the inner surface of the non-dominant medial upper arm in women, over the triceps area. However, this case report aims to describe an alternative insertion site for etonorgestrel implant - the medial side of the thigh - in nephropathic patients with arteriovenous fistulas undergoing hemodialysis. Broken but not beaten: Challenge of reducing the amyloids pathogenicity by degradation
J Adv Res. 2024 Apr 18:S2090-1232(24)00161-9. doi: 10.1016/j.jare.2024.04.018. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The accumulation of ordered protein aggregates, amyloid fibrils, accompanies various neurodegenerative diseases (such as Parkinson's, Huntington's, Alzheimer's, etc.) and causes a wide range of systemic and local amyloidoses (such as insulin, hemodialysis amyloidosis, etc.). Such pathologies are usually diagnosed when the disease is already irreversible and a large amount of amyloid plaques have accumulated. In recent years, new drugs aimed at reducing amyloid levels have been actively developed. However...

Effects of 1-week inpatient multidisciplinary care for chronic kidney disease prior to outpatient collaborative care
ConclusionEducational hospitalization prior to outpatient collaborative care is beneficial for preventing hemodialysis induction using a central venous catheter and postponing dialysis induction. (Source: Clinical and Experimental Nephrology)

Use of a donor kidney with known autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease in a highly sensitised paediatric recipient
We report the use of an autosomal-dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) donor kidney in a paediatric recipient. A 14-year-old boy on haemodialysis for 4 years following loss of a first kidney transplant, highly sensitised, and with limited vascular options for ongoing dialysis access, was offered a deceased brain death donor transplant from a mid-30s donor with known ADPKD but normal kidney function and negligible proteinuria. After extensive discussion with the patient and family, discussing all alternative options and review of available literature, the kidney was accepted and implanted. Graft function was immediate...

Anterior and posterior ischemic optic neuropathy in a child with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis on hemodialysis
ConclusionsThe exact cause of our patient ’s simultaneous bilateral anterior and posterior ION, confirmed via MRI and fundoscopic examination, is unclear; however, is likely secondary to a combination of fluctuating blood pressure, anemia, anephric status, and hemodialysis. This highlights the need for close blood pressure monitoring, man agement of anemia, and more diligent ophthalmologic screening in pediatric patients on chronic hemodialysis. Is aortic knob width a novel predictor of mortality in hemodialysis patients?
CONCLUSIONS: Age, male gender, aortic calcification, and hypertension are the primary risk factors for increased aortic knob width in hemodialysis patients. Aortic knob width greater than 37.98 mm, which can be measured simply and rapidly using posterior-anterior chest radiography, may be a predictor of mortality.GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT: https://www.europeanreview.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/Graphical-Abstract-10.jpg.PMID:38639520 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35909 (Source: Atherosclerosis)
