Hello I am looking to apply to the combined DVM/PHD program in veterinary school and I was wondering how I can best tell which veterinary schools to apply to. For me location is important, my IS is UPenn but I do not like the city environment but they have full funding should I apply you think? With the environment I am interested in the schools I am looking at for full funding in tuition assistance are Colorado State University, University of Georgia (which is it worth it to take the GRE... Minn (oos) vs Penn (Oos)
I’d appreciate any input into this decision. Cost isn’t an issue and both are far from home. I want to be a general dentist, so want the best clinical experience I can get. I also want a collegial environment with classmates. Also admin that are helpful and want students to succeed, not make things harder for them. Any suggestions on which would be better for me? How is Rad-Onc job market?
Full disclosure: I am a PGY3 medicine resident who did not match HemOnc this year and plan to do chief year or hospitalist for a couple year to apply again later. Recently I went to a social event by the hospital for "better collegial environment", I was talking about my woe to a friend from med school who matched to Rad-Onc (presently PGY3). I seemed to touch a nerve and the dude just unloaded on me on "be thankful that you can at least get a job in a tolerable place with good schedule... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WCUCOM vs MU-COM vs UIWSOM
All these schools are far from me, but WCUCOM is the farthest and hardest to get to (3 hr plane then 2.5 hr drive) WCUCOM Pros: - P/F grading - lower tuition - environment seems super friendly and collaborative - good resources WCUCOM Cons: - super duper far from family MU-COM Pros: - bigger city - good rotation sites - easier to travel to - students seems happy MU-COM Cons: - graded system UIWSOM Pros: - P/F grading system - commute is similar to MUCOM - bigger city compared to WCUCOM... Discrimination / Retaliation in Anesthesia (Colorado)
This is a problem at the University of Colorado where the Chair has faced multiple lawsuits (see below). Not sure how she still has a job. Anywhere else? Doctors allege anti-Semitism and age discrimination against CU School of Medicine Nine doctors wrote a letter to regents alleging that the school is "an abusive and unhealthy hostile environment." www.coloradopolitics.com Gonzales v. Thoughts on psych ED compensation
Hey folks, I've been looking at a few options for work on my off service weeks and wanted to get input... one option is a psych ED/urgent care environment that is well resourced and safe, and they offer $175/hr W2 to work 8am to 8pm. On the one hand that seems ok but the thought of being at work on like a Friday night at 7pm seems like something that I'd want more $ for. Thoughts? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Remove label before recycling.
Hey, Amazon. You deliver cool things to my doorstep. A lot of things that I need for work. Things like socks, shoes, caffeine, headlamps, whatever. You say that you're an environmentally conscientious company. That's cool. I'm an environmentally hyperaware person. I grew up watching Captain Planet cartoons and stuff, too. At the very least, I don't want any more waste polluting my mountain bike trails, waterways, etc. Cool, bro. It's almost like you have a conscience. We can talk about... what to look for in advanced endoscopy program
currently a second year fellow, preparing for advanced match next year. can you guys give pointers to what to look up in the respective programs when applying? My understanding is most programs(except few) require the advanced fellow to do EGD and colon 1 day a week, that will support their salary. My hope is get trained in ERCP, EUS, EMR, BE treatment, luminal stenting and possibly some intro to bariatric endoscopy(optional). Eventually plan to work in semi-academic environment. Direction of Locums Rates
With the continuing shortage of anesthesiologists/CRNAs in the environment where hospitals are currently facing large deficits and reimbursements are decreasing, how do you see locums rates trending in the near future? Are you noticing rates are continuing to increase, or have they leveled off some? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

A brief introduction to Occupational Medicine Residency
The following is a post I made a while back on reddit. I don't visit SDN as often, but I figured I should also post it here to make more students aware of this little-known field. Occ Med and Prev Med can be great options for those who have not yet found a specialty and may have an interest in population health, policy, environmental health, or administration. This post is more focused on Occ Med as that is what I know best, but there is a lot of overlap with Prev... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
