Michigan (OOS) vs Penn
School 1: Michigan (OOS) Pros: Cheaper My little brother is probably going there for undergrad next year “Number one dental school” Football (I’ve never had a “game day experience) Pathways program Emphasis on research Cons: Weather Ranked program (so creates a more competitive environment?) Location? Lack of diversity in the people coming to the clinics and lack of diversity in cases? I am a Spanish speaker and really want to work with... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Self-education/staying up-to-date in private practice
I'm 2 years into practice and I'm curious how other attendings in private practice go about continuing to learn techniques, stay up-to-date on new technology, and continue to read the latest journal articles/publications since we aren't in an academic environment? Attending the annual academy and other subspecialty meetings helps, but what do you do on a daily/weekly/monthly basis to keep yourselves current with the latest in the field? What about the business aspect of practice? My own... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CAA vs Dentistry
For someone that likes both fields equally, how would you objectively compare these two fields? Looking for comparisons in regards to financial outlook, job outlook, work-life balance/schedule, work environment, politics, prestige/respect, etc. I will practice either profession in Florida. Keep in mind I actually PREFER not having my own business and instead, working for a hospital or practice. So if I were a dentist, I would most likely be an associate for quite some time at least. Does this kind of job exist?
Does this job exist -working mostly with patients who have schizophrenia, schizoaffective, bipolar 1, and/or OCD. May sound selfish/awful, but these are disorders I'm interested in and everything else I find exhausting -working with patients in a secure living environment - seeing about 5-10 patients per day and working about 3 days per week Money not very important, I would work for as little as 90,000$ per year. I don't care much about money. I feel so burned out in residency. I'm tired... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help me decide: Michigan (IS) vs Harvard
School 1: The University of Michigan School of Dentistry * IS Pros: closer to home closer to SO (maybe) Cheaper $$$ Great reputation in Michigan Cons: Graded more competitive environment? School 2: Harvard School of Dental Medicine Pros: Harvard Boston seems cool P/F unranked Excellent match rates Med School curriculum (cool) would be an adventure Really clicked with interviewers and students Cons: Cost $$$$$... StardeWW Valley - GAME THREAD
(music for ambiance) You step off the train and look around. It's a quiet little valley, flourishing green and with flowers blooming everywhere. The perfect spring environment. It's quite a change from the busy city life you've grown accustomed to. You see a mountainous range in the distance. It's beautiful, but is so far away, you have a hard time believing those peaks are real. It seems like just a fantasy or a trick of the eye. You pay no more mind to them... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pathway to Academic Oncology Specialization in Lung Cancer
big dreamer here: if you were starting out as a first year med student, what is the path you’d take to secure a dream job specializing in lung cancer and related environmental research/advocacy at an academic medical center? what about while adding on an MBA and wanting to combine academia with entrepreneurship to find better lung cancer therapies? HPSP failure
The reality of HPSP is seen on first contact with uniformed service members at MEPS. HPSP is not suited for young adults with good morals who simply want to pay down student loan debt. If you are troubled by harsh language, crude jokes and lack of respect for the individual, you will not like the MEPS environment which may extend into the training environment. The new normal is discipline by f-bombs and yelling instead of meaningful intensity. We're doing an about-face on HPSP as a plan... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

RVUCOM-CO vs Touro-Middletown
1st post! Two acceptances so far, waiting to hear back from 4 other schools post interview. Only other school I think I'd go to would be LECOM Elmira. RVU has a great match rate but someone told me alot of students end up having to SOAP. Touro seems like a super welcoming environment but their match list isn't as good. Similar board pass rates. Both seem to have decent rotations. Prefer RVUs location but I'm not basing my decision on that. Not sure about it being for profit. PLEASE GIVE... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Which medical schools are known to be toxic/supportive?
As I'm possibly going to be deciding between schools, I recently realized that the school/hospital environment is probably most important to me. Does anyone personally know schools or have heard about schools that tend to be more toxic or, on the other side, friendly? This refers to the students themselves but also the attendings on clinical rotations. For example, everyone I met at Stanford was really friendly and personable and they said the clinical environment was very supportive (of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Working at a prison. What's it like? Pros and cons?
There is an opportunity for a prison dentist in my area for 1-2 days a month. I'm considering it in addition to my other associateships. They didn't post salary though in the ad. Just curious if anyone here has done it or know someone else who has? How much were you paid? I've read a few posts on DentalTown that it seems largely a stress-free environment but can be "boring" since you're just doing mainly basics such as simple fillings and exos. No crowns or implant crowns. The ad says... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
