University of Washington vs Vanderbilt
Hey everyone I'm having a really tough time deciding between these two schools and have no clue where I should go! I would appreciate any help.
UW (Seattle)
Pros
Would be really close to family as well as being in the same time zone as my partner, familiarity with the area
Much cheaper cost of attendance because IS
Ability to travel places for clerkships and be exposed to many clinical environments and ability to be super hands on (also a con though)
A lot of...

Retake DAT or apply early?
Hi everyone! I'm starting to think about reapplying and wanted to know if I should retake the DAT or just apply the first day the cycle opens with my current scores? I was lucky enough to get 3 interview invites this cycle even though my DAT verified in Oct, so i wanted to know if i should just apply earlier this upcoming cycle? I'm not sure if i retake the DAT i can score better, i dont have a good environment to study in and with covid the libraries are closed, i made the mistake of...

How to change a toxic medical school environment
Hey guys!
Does anyone have advice on what to do when your medical school refuses to take even small steps towards accommodating, supporting, and protecting its students and their emotional well-being? Is there anything that can be done aside from asking for help (and repeatedly being shut down)? Feeling desperate. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Brown vs Albert Einstein
Brown

supportive and collaborative environment
Cons

Albert Einstein
Pros
True P/F

Take a Test Drive Before Exam Day
Highly recommend
We believe that familiarizing yourself with the look and feel of the computer-based testing environment in advance of your exam will minimize pre-test mistakes such as getting lost on the way to the center or failing to arrive with the correct I.D. and paperwork. Being better prepared for the test experience will allow you to perform better the day of your test.
Prometric offers the test takers of select exams the opportunity to take a 30-minute "dry-run" of the...

Becoming a Nurse before Med School for Financial Reasons?
Hello all!
To give some background, I'm 22 and I have a B.A. in Criminology from the University of Maryland and my goal was to go to law school and become an attorney. However, I realized over time that I'm much better suited to a career in healthcare due to my interest in science and desire to work in more of a collaborative rather than adversarial work environment.
Since I do not have many of the prereqs for med school, a post bacc program for career changers is the best path forward...

Vanderbilt vs. UNC
Vanderbilt
Pros:
- More flexibility built into the curriculum
- (slightly I think?) More research opportunities
- Urban environment
- Prestige
Cons:
- Jam packed first year
- Possibly too heavy of a research focus for my taste
- Less of a focus on the underserved (my passion)
UNC
Pros:
- Absolutely love the area
- 4 year medical Spanish program
- More of a focus on the underserved
- Not everyone is from an Ivy League lol
Cons:
- Less prestige (I think??)
- Fewer research opportunities
-...

Covid and changes in interpersonal/intrapersonal outlook
Has working in the Covid environment made you feel more youthful/invulnerable? I'm curious what to see the public says, as that's one thing I can be thankful for in dentistry - a strengthened immune system. I feel free to travel and do whatever I want without any fear. Also, I found that this environment has brought true colors of many people out and the dissociation/association within groups of people has changed many of the dynamics of interpersonal relationships.
Who else has found that...

Where do I start?
Hello everyone!
I am a 22-year-old RN BSN looking to start the journey to dental school. I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing with a 3.21 GPA. Initially, after school, I thought I would be interested in pursuing an MD but have since changed my mind after my experiences in the hospital environment and working closely with MDs. I have worked with a few dentists and oral surgeons in my year of being a nurse and I believe dentistry would be the best career for me. I'm interested...

Graduating fellows....any advantage of going into PP instead of hospital employee?
Hospital employee jobs seem to trump PP jobs in every facet of the game. Higher starting pay, check. Less risk for the new physician, check. Strong in network referral system, check. Better retirement vehicles, check. I don't see how pp groups are able to recruit any fellows. Hospitals are reimbursed more for procedures too; I don't understand how pp pain groups can survive in this environment. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dartmouth (Geisel) vs Miami (Miller)
Hello everyone,
I have been fortunate to receive acceptances to both Dartmouth and Miami and would appreciate any thoughts/insights into this decision, especially as all interviews have been virtual this cycle and its not possible to visit campus unfortunately.
Some minor background about me, I am a 23 year old male from CA, looking to pursue a competitive specialty (possibly IR), enjoy outdoors/sports but would probably rather be in urban environment (but not deal breaker). Would like to...

Fastest pace specialties
What specialties would be best for someone who enjoys a fast pace work environment? I know emergency med and critical care may be some but are there any others you'd recommend looking into? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

A lot of students specialize...I do not feel like competing with peers???? What?
Respectfully, why is this considered a CON for some applying to schools? No matter where you go you will have "gunners" and if you don't want to specialize, why does this even matter? A lot of people don’t know they want to specialize until later and why not keep your options open with the help of some friendly competition. If any of these schools promoted a hostile environment you would hear about it somewhere on SDN. I would like to hear others opinions. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
