University of Maryland vs, Tufts (Maine track)
Maryland pro -close to home and SO -less expensive -more diverse specialties in a larger academic hospital -more research opportunities and more prestigious con -less focus and work with rural patient population -city environment Tufts pro -rural primary care focused (leaning towards this as a specialty) -new location and experience con -away from family and SO -more expensive -less prestigious I am wondering your thoughts... Prepping for OMS First Year Coursework
I have been accepted to two DO schools (yay!) and am waiting on the outcome of my remaining applications. Either way, I am starting med school in Fall 2023. I would like to take the time from now till next September to get a leg up on the coursework and exams that will start then. Given that med school is hard and a competitive environment, I want to start preparing now to hit the ground running at that time and score well in my first year. Are there online classes, other material on the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

how has your school's grading system (GPA vs P/F) affected you?
How has the typical grading system of a GPA or the Pass/Fail system really shaped you as a dentist and/or a student? To my understanding, doing a P/F system allows you to be more open with your peers meanwhile GPA presents a more cut throat, competitive environment. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Low COMLEX score, can I still do internal?
Got my COMLEX level 1 score back today - 428. Never been good at standardized testing, and would def say I had a ****ty test day. Currently on my 3rd year rotations and I'm totally digging internal and the whole hospital environment in general and could positively say I would choose this over family. With a COMLEX score that low am I pretty much locked in family or could I match a community IM program with that score? Does killing level 2 compensate at all? I appreciate any help, thanks all. Do MD schools care about students?
Hello. I was dismissed from a DO program over failure of one class (4 credits out of 30) in my first semester of attendance. But was overall a decent student (B+ average). I had a personal situation, but school objected to an LOA. Contrary to popular opinion here on SDN, I reapplied, and received a few interviews at domestic schools (not Caribbean). The environment at that school was beyond toxic. My question is - how do you feel your MD school treats you? If faculty, do you tend to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PGY2 looking at Path
Hello all! First, please don’t quote. Second, I am a PGY2 that was terminated from residency just last week and am seeking advice. To try and summate: I completed roughly 19 months of residency (2020-early 2022) in a primary care field. Due to a toxic program and work environment (was bullied, picked on, etc) I ended up resigning while trying to figure out if I even wanted to stay in medicine. For the next few months that followed I searched high and low for jobs and it became utterly... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Direct Patient Contact, Wilderness Medicine & Deceased Individuals
I have received several secondaries that ask me to explain my most meaningful clinical experience that involves direct patient contact. One of the most meaningful experiences I have ever had was providing care to an individual who was deceased while in a wilderness healthcare environment. Thus I am wondering if working with a deceased individual can constitute direct patient contact and if wilderness healthcare can qualify as clinical or if I am reaching too much on both of these fronts?
