The job vs. the job - how far(?!) has it come in 10ish years
Inspired by personal growth thread and a conversation last night with doc who posed an interesting question "Given today's [practice environment], do you think anyone is going to be able to do 20-30 years of this job?" My thought was there are going to be people that stick it out that long but it will be rare. But it also got me thinking of what the job was when I came out vs. what the job is currently. And man, things were different back then. In no particular order: 1) Pay: whelp... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Psychiatry vs Pathology
Hi everybody, I know that these are disparate specialities, but I am considering pathology and psychiatry. I think I would enjoy the work environment of pathology: a calm environment with intellectually stimulating work. However, I know that pathology does not have as much flexibility as psychiatry, especially concerning private work. Additionally, it seems that psychiatry can have higher pay than pathology these days. I also find the patient interactions in psychiatry interesting. If you... Should I quit law school to go into medicine for the money?
Hello everyone, I've been thinking lately about dropping out of law school and going into medicine instead, and I would like to know if it's worth making the jump. My school is in the top 25, where I received a full-ride scholarship thanks to my academic performance. In other words, no debt. I don't like school very much. However, my internships have been very fruitful, and it's a profession I'm willing to do with all my heart. I certainly enjoy the work environment and all that the... Glasgow vs SGU
I got into Glasgow and SGU and they are very different from each other. I have a pros & cons list which considers things like timeline/cost/environment, but I seem to be at an impasse. I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts outright comparing these schools? Thanks in advance! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Buffalo (OOS) vs UNLV (OOS)
Both schools offer IS tuition after 1 year Buffalo: around 330k total? Pros: - 4-5 hours drive from home - Good clinical education Cons: - Weather UNLV: around 300k total? Pros: - Good weather (aside from summer lol) - More lively city (I don't party though) - Good clinical education Cons: - Far from family and friends Currently, I am not looking to specialize. I'm hoping to get a more accurate sense of cost of attendance as well as insight into the environment and culture of each school. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Indiana (OOS) vs. Kentucky (IS) vs Louisville (IS)

How do you explain for bad grades in supplemental essay/interviews?
How would you explain for poor academic performance during one of your undergraduate semesters? Should you place the blame on yourself (for example poor study habits) or outside environmental factors? (such as being first-gen or struggle with finance) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Outside perspective - job market
Hi all, random ophthalmologist here. As promised in the job postings thread, here are the differences in our markets which I find interesting. Absolutely nothing posted here is to brag on me or demean you, or vice versa. I post this, again, as an outside perspective because I think these are reasonable guidelines for initial contracts. For reference, I'm a private practice partner in a subspecialty practice. I think our market environment/psychology is more conducive to happy employment, so...
