Ferroptosis, Inflammation, and Microbiome Alterations in the Intestine in the G öttingen Minipig Model of Hematopoietic-Acute Radiation Syndrome
Int J Mol Sci. 2024 Apr 20;25(8):4535. doi: 10.3390/ijms25084535.ABSTRACTHematopoietic acute radiation syndrome (H-ARS) involves injury to multiple organ systems following total body irradiation (TBI). Our laboratory demonstrated that captopril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, mitigates H-ARS in Göttingen minipigs, with improved survival and hematopoietic recovery, as well as the suppression of acute inflammation. However, the effects of captopril on the gastrointestinal (GI) system after TBI are not well known. We used a Göttingen minipig H-ARS model to investigate captopril's effects on the GI following TBI...

A comparative assessment of microbiocenosis of saliva and oropharynx in patients with migraine
CONCLUSION: A comparative assessment of the microbiota of a smear from the posterior wall of the oropharynx and saliva using MMSM showed the presence of dysbiosis both in the oropharynx and in the saliva of patients with migraine. However, there were fewer deviations from the norm in saliva, therefore, for diagnostic purposes, a smear from the posterior wall of the oropharynx is more significant as a biomarker for patients with migraine.PMID:38676678 | DOI:10.17116/jnevro202412404155 (Source: Herpes)

Silencing of Resistance Mechanism in Vancomycin-Resistance Enterococci Using Antisense RNA of vanA Gene
This study showed that neutralization of the vancomycin resistance gene may provide a lower MIC value in a vancomycin-resistant enterococcus strain and lead to increased susceptibility. This new approach provides a new method for VRE treatment by neutralizing the vancomycin resistance mechanism. The result obtained in this study needs to be supported by in vivo tests.PMID:38676581 | DOI:10.5578/mb.202498191 (Source: Mikrobiyoloji Bulteni)

Short-term exposures to PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub > , PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub > chemical components, and antenatal depression: Exploring the mediating roles of gut microbiota and fecal short-chain fatty acids
CONCLUSION: Our study highlights that Enterococcus may mediate the associations between PM2.5, PM2.5 chemical components, and antenatal depression. The mediating mechanism through which the gut microbiota influences PM2.5-induced depression in pregnant women still needs to be further studied.PMID:38677066 | DOI:10.1016/j.ecoenv.2024.116398 (Source: Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety)

Distribution and survival of pathogens from different waste components and bioaerosol traceability analysis in household garbage room
In this study, a culture method and 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing were used to determine bacterial communities, culturable pathogens, and human bacterial pathogens (HBPs). The results showed that abundant culturable bacteria were detected in all waste types, and a large number of S. aureus was detected on the surface of recyclable wastes, whereas S. aureus, total coliforms, Salmonella, Enterococcus, and hemolytic bacteria were detected in food waste and other waste. The activities of these detected pathogenic bacteria decreased after 24 h of storage but re-activated within one week. Factors affecting the emergence of...

Dissemination, virulence characteristic, antibiotic resistance determinants of emerging linezolid and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus spp. in fish and crustacean
In conclusion, the emergence of linezolid-resistant -vancomycin-resistant enterococci recovered from Egyptian fish and shrimp, suggests that fish and seafood might participate a fundamental part in the emergence of antimicrobial resistance among humans.PMID:38677237 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijfoodmicro.2024.110711 (Source: International Journal of Food Microbiology)
