Bile Culture May Guide Antibiotic Stewardship in Acute Bacterial Cholangitis
ConclusionBile and blood cultures have a similar microbial profile in most patients with cholangitis. As bile cultures have a significantly higher yield than blood cultures, they could effectively guide antimicrobial therapy, especially in those with negative blood cultures.Graphical Abstract (Source: Digestive Diseases and Sciences)

Leaf Extracts of < em > Moringa oleifera < /em > Cultivated in Baghdad: Characterization and Antimicrobial Potential against Endodontic Pathogens
Conclusion. Ethanolic and aqueous extracts of Moringa oleifera leaves cultivated in Baghdad contain considerable quantities of phytochemicals, especially flavonoid and phenolic compounds, and demonstrated antimicrobial activities against selected endodontic pathogens. Therefore, Moringa leaf extracts could be suggested as an alternative antimicrobial material in endodontic treatment.PMID:38450244 | PMC:PMC10917486 | DOI:10.1155/2024/6658164 (Source: The Scientific World Journal)

Characteristics of intestinal microbiota in preterm infants and the effects of probiotic supplementation on the microbiota
ConclusionThe characteristics of intestinal microbiota in preterm infants differ from those in full-term infants. Probiotic supplementation can reduce the relative abundance of potential pathogenic bacteria and increase the abundance of beneficial microbiota in premature infants. Novel silver nanoparticle-antibiotic combinations as promising antibacterial and anti-biofilm candidates against multiple-antibiotic resistant ESKAPE microorganisms
This study explores the combination of AgNPs with antibiotics (SACs) to create new antimicrobial agents effective against MAR ESKAPE microorganisms.METHODS: AgNPs were synthesized using Streptococcus pneumoniae ATCC 49619 and characterized for structure and surface properties. The SACs were tested against ESKAPE microorganisms using growth kinetics and time-kill curve methods. The effect of SACs on bacterial biofilms and the disruption of cell membranes was determined. The in-vitro cytotoxicity effect of the AgNPs was also studied.FINDINGS: The synthesized AgNPs (spherical, 7.37±4.55 nm diameter) were antimicrobial agains...

Epidemiologic analysis of antimicrobial resistance in hospital departments in China from 2022 to 2023
This study suggests that the prevention and control of infections in the respiratory and genitourinary systems should be the focus of anti-infective work and that the use of antimicrobials should be reduced and regulated to prevent the emergence and spread of resistant bacteria.PMID:38449053 | PMC:PMC10918933 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-024-00526-2 (Source: Journal of Health, Population, and Nutrition)
