Emerging Perspectives on the Impact of Diabetes Mellitus and Anti-Diabetic Drugs on Premenstrual Syndrome. A Narrative Review
AbstractDiabetes mellitus (DM) and premenstrual syndrome (PMS) are global health challenges. Both disorders are often linked to a range of physical and psychological symptoms that significantly impact the quality of life of many women. Yet, the exact relation between DM and PMS is not clear, and the management of both conditions poses a considerable challenge. In this review, we aimed to investigate the interplay between DM, anti-diabetic drugs, and the different theories and symptoms of PMS. Female sex hormones are implicated in the pathophysiology of PMS and can also impair blood glucose control. In addition, patients wi...

Effect of switch from flash glucose monitoring to flash glucose monitoring with real-time alarms on hypoglycaemia in people with type 1 diabetes mellitus
We aimed to evaluate the utility of the FreeStyle Libre 2 device for reducing time below range level 1 and level 2 compared with the Freestyle Libre device (without alarms) in people with type 1 diabetes mellitus. We conducted longitudinal observational follow-up study of a cohort of 100 people with type 1 diabetes mellitus who had switched from FreeStyle Libre to FreeStyle Libre 2 as part of routine clinical practice. Three months after switching to FreeStyle Libre 2, compared with results with FreeStyle Libre, there were a significant improvements in time below range level 1 (p = 0.02) and level 2 (p (Source: Primary Care Diabetes)

The glucose tolerance peak parameter revisited. Definition for a novel use in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus confirmation
ConclusionsGTp, an index derived exclusively from the OGTT peak glycaemia, proves valuable in confirming the presence of GDM. The GTp could be used to confirm the presence of GDM under necessity of a second OGTT as test confirmation in pregnant woman. A cut-off of  <  0. 36 has a specificity of 100% and a sensitivity of 75% for the diagnosis of GDM. (Source: Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders)

The latest emerging drugs for the treatment of diabetic cardiomyopathy
Expert Opin Pharmacother. 2024 Apr 30:1-14. doi: 10.1080/14656566.2024.2347468. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a serious complication of diabetes mellitus involving multiple pathophysiologic mechanisms. In addition to hypoglycemic agents commonly used in diabetes, metabolism-related drugs, natural plant extracts, melatonin, exosomes, and rennin-angiotensin-aldosterone system are cardioprotective in DCM. However, there is a lack of systematic summarization of drugs for DCM.AREAS COVERED: In this review, the authors systematically summarize the most recent drugs used for the trea...

Colorectal Cancer and Subsequent Diabetes Risk: A Population-based Cohort Study in Taiwan
CONCLUSION: Patients with CRC are associated with an elevated risk of diabetes mellitus, and long-term chemotherapy, particularly involving capecitabine, increases diabetes mellitus risk. Thus, monitoring blood glucose levels is crucial for patients with CRC, especially during extended chemotherapy.PMID:38661006 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae257 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Differential inhibition of sildenafil and macitentan on saxagliptin metabolism
Toxicol Appl Pharmacol. 2024 Apr 24;486:116934. doi: 10.1016/j.taap.2024.116934. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe development of diabetes mellitus (DM) is generally accompanied by erectile dysfunction (ED) and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), which increases the use of combination drug therapy and the risk of drug-drug interactions. Saxagliptin for the treatment of DM, sildenafil for the treatment of ED and PAH, and macitentan for the treatment of PAH are all substrates of CYP3A4, which indicates their potential involvement in drug-drug interactions. Therefore, we investigated potential pharmacokinetic interactions ...
