Prediction and causal inference of hyperuricemia using gut microbiota
This study aimed to determine the relationship between HUA and GM. The microbiome of 224 men and 254 women aged 40 years was analyzed through next-generation sequencing and machine learning. We obtained GM data through 16S rRNA-based sequencing of the fecal samples, finding that alpha-diversity by Shannon index was significantly low in the HUA group. Linear discriminant effect size analysis detected a high abundance of the genera Collinsella and Faecalibacterium in the HUA and non-HUA groups. Based on light gradient boosting machine learning, we propose that HUA can be predicted with high AUC using four clinical characteri...

Modification of lipoprotein metabolism and function driving atherogenesis in diabetes
Atherosclerosis. 2024 Apr 17:117545. doi: 10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2024.117545. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTType 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disease, characterized by raised blood glucose levels and impaired lipid metabolism resulting from insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency. In diabetes, the peculiar plasma lipoprotein phenotype, consisting in higher levels of apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins, hypertriglyceridemia, low levels of HDL cholesterol, elevated number of small, dense LDL, and increased non-HDL cholesterol, results from an increased synthesis and impaired clearance ...

The current landscape for diabetes treatment: Preventing diabetes-associated CV risk
Atherosclerosis. 2024 Apr 23:117560. doi: 10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2024.117560. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDespite the risk of atherosclerosis has progressively declined over the past few decades, subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) continue to experience substantial excess of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD)-related events. Therefore, there is urgent need to treat ASCVD disease in T2DM earlier, more intensively, and with greater precision. Many factors concur to increase the risk of atherosclerosis, and multifactorial intervention remains the basis for effective prevention or reduction of ather...

Pharmacokinetic, Pharmacodynamic, and Safety Profiles of Proline Henagliflozin in Chinese Subjects with Varying Degrees of Liver Dysfunction
J Clin Pharmacol. 2024 Apr 30. doi: 10.1002/jcph.2437. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTProline henagliflozin, a novel selective inhibitor of sodium glucose cotransporter 2, is a treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus. We designed a parallel-group, open-label, and multicenter study to evaluate the pharmacokinetic (PK), pharmacodynamic (PD), and safety profiles of henagliflozin in Chinese subjects with varying degrees of liver dysfunction. Thirty-two subjects were enrolled and divided into four groups based on liver function (normal liver function, mild, moderate, or severe liver dysfunction). The area under the plasma concent...

Construction of Risk Prediction Model of Type 2 Diabetic Kidney Disease Based on Deep Learning
CONCLUSION: The developed DKD risk predictive model using LSTM neural networks demonstrated high accuracy and AUC value. When HbA1c, SBP, and PP variabilities were added to the model as featured characteristics, the model's performance was greatly improved.PMID:38685670 | DOI:10.4093/dmj.2023.0033 (Source: Diabetes and Metabolism Journal)

Hospital-Acquired Acute Kidney Injury in Non-Critical Medical Patients in a Developing Country Tertiary Hospital: Incidence and Predictors
CONCLUSION: HAAKI is a common complication in hospitalized non-critical medical patients, and is associated with a common medical condition and commonly prescribed medications. Therefore, it is important to remain vigilant in the prevention and timely identification of these cases and to establish a system of rational prescribing habits.PMID:38685967 | PMC:PMC11057508 | DOI:10.2147/IJNRD.S454987 (Source: International Journal of Nephrology and Renovascular Disease)

Does Antibiotic Use Increase the Risk of Post-Transplantation Diabetes Mellitus? A Retrospective Study of Renal Transplant Patients
CONCLUSIONS In addition to age, BMI, and TAC concentration after RT, antibiotic use may be a novel factor affecting PTDM. The use of antibiotics may influence the development of PTDM.PMID:38685698 | DOI:10.12659/AOT.943282 (Source: Annals of Transplantation)

Development of a hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose/polyacrylic acid interpolymer complex formulated buccal mucosa adhesive film to facilitate the delivery of insulin for diabetes treatment
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Apr 27:131876. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131876. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBuccal mucosa administration is a promising method for insulin (INS) delivery with good compliance. However, buccal mucosa delivery systems still face challenges of long-term mucosal adhesion, sustained drug release, and mucosal drug penetration. To address these issues, a double-layer film consisting of a hydroxypropyl methylcellulose/polyacrylic acid interpolymer complex (IPC)-formulated mucoadhesive layer and an ethylcellulose (EC)-formulated waterproof backing layer (IPC/EC film) was designed. Protamine (PTM) and...

Basal Hyperglycemia Contributes More Than Fifty Percent to Time in Range in Pregnant Women with Type 1 Diabetes
CONCLUSIONS: Basal hyperglycemia was the major contributor to TIR during pregnancy. Along with controlling the postprandial hyperglycemia, pregnant women with T1DM who did not reach the target of TIR may benefit more from the optimization of insulin regimens focusing on reducing basal glucose.PMID:38686666 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae291 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)
